Is there a way that it's not possible to open Firefox without first entering a password?

This will protect my PC from having someone else loading Firefox and logining into my personal websites which have auto-complete enabled.

Please note, I am already aware of the ability to use a master password in passwords section. I am not wanting that. I want a password that is needed for anyone to open Firefox.

    Is there a way?

Public Fox add-on. I use it one one computer and it seemed to work well in Firefox-2. The PublicFox add-on approved for FX 3 appears to work well in password protecting about:config/options/add-ons/ except for it's password protection of adding/changing anything to do with bookmarks & downloads, which is hit or miss at best in the FX 3 approved version. Some bookmarks & DLs require a password before proceeding & some slide right thru w/o generating a password request.
As far as password protecting changes to your profile, just keep a clean initial FX profile folder backed-up on an external, and if you feel it's been compromised or every so often, then just reinstall the whole profile. Just BU your current bookmarks 1st, and keep a notepad of any of your changes done to your settings since your initial BU.
Another thought would be to copy your profile folder to a secure folder before shutting down, reinstalling an initial basic BU folder (w/o auto-complete configured) to the FX profile folder, before you shut down. When you log back on, copy/paste your BU profile folder (with auto-complete configured) from your secure file back as your FX profile folder.

How about getting a portable version of Firefox so it is all in one file and WinRAR it so you need a password to open the .rar

There are some commercial solutions available, just google, but i think there should also be a solution in Win XP itself, something with user permissions, but i don't remember exactly, i have to search for this myself again....

Sounds like you need a encryption program to encrypt all files and folders you want to keep safe. :D

Wouldn't separate logins to the OS itself create different profiles for each user of FireFox and provide rudimentary protection?

i'd say just buy a cheap usb stick, get a copy of portable firefox and then encyrpt the lot. must easier, then have another copy on your computer for the general surfing (nothing that you don't want anyone to see)

another idea is to get a copy of portable opera, it runs from a single exe file, and cleans any data from the host machine when closed.

We're working on a version of firefox that runs with password and an encrypted cache. Should be ready in a couple months.

    Sounds good.

By the way XeroBank, do you know of a way I can password protect my Vista so others cannot access my windows? The Vista password is easy to bypass I have heard. Besides using TrueCrypt, is there any way to securely password my Vista?
