Blocker for XP SP3

Can someone please tell me in simple terms now to use this tool.
I saved it to desktop from the Microsoft site and it then asks you to type in a path for the files.
I am at a loss as what to do at this point.
I did manage to extract two files onto the desktop and I think I ran something called nospupdate.
The problem was after this that I coulndnt access the Windows update site, so I restored back and then I could.
I have both HP laptop and HP pavilion desktop and I have heard that HP have some problems with SP3. It seems just too much trouble with potential problems so I wish to reject the update.
On my laptop it reappeared yesterday with no option to hide it as before as I believe is correct as Microsoft are now pushing the update.
I definately do not want it and it is annoying to have the update icon constantly appearing which is why I wanted to run the blocker tool.

 

It's intresting that there is some problems with specified manufacturer. Easy solution to you is just disable automatic updates (who even need that?).

Everybody. Your recommendation is false and frivolous, IMHO.

 

If you have not yet tried to load Service Pack 3, tlu's 3rd link should solve the issue that could cause you trouble if you have an AMD CPU. After applying that patch, installing SP3 should not be an issue.

Keep in mind this is NOT a permanent block. MS has stated that Windows will only honor the block for 12 months after the release of the service pack. Then you get it anyway.

Also, even if you run the block, you can manually download and install SP3 at any time. It only affects getting SP3 via WU.

 

I finally managed to run the microsoft tool.
I saved it to the C drive and then opened it by going into My Computer.
Then I double clicked on the tool and got a pop up saying it was successful.
So I rebooted and chose to hide the update and it has now gone.
What I have found however is that the Windows Update site no longer opens for me. It gets partially loaded and just hangs.
I am however able to get onto the Microsoft update site.
This seems odd and confusing.
Any opinions on this would be gratefully received.
I must just add as my own opinion that it think it is wrong of Microsoft to push an update such as this to people as some of us just dont want it.
I appreciate the help given in all the replies but to be honest things like booting into safe mode etc is beyond me and I know I would have to hire an IT professional to do this for me as I have done in the past when I have had technical problems.
