My romanian concitizen there is no brazilian language ,they speak portugues over there.

    On topic:
Romanians know Bitdefender ,but they consider it junk.Because in most cases it works strange.RAV antivirus was always seen as beeing better than Bitdefender .Dezinfection ,system hoging and bugs are it s problems.

Now regarding the links towards the downloads in the sites. You don t need to be angry.I ve cryed about the broken links for the BD Free version from the romanian site a lot on the BitDefender forum one year ago.You can t do to much ,the websites are mentained badly. You may need to access the http download location directly (ftp style) to get the packages if they exist.

    Why so much noise ?
Most of you consider BitDefender antivirus as beeing bad.
It started to be good now suddenly or ... ?!

It s not so hard to use the interface if you know some latin language (italian for example)

Bitdefender engine is really good and fsecure, gdata are providing excellent products based on bd engine. But each year bitdefender somehow manages to release the most buggy antivirus. I have tried 2009,2010,2011 versions and with each one i had frequent crash and various errors. However there is no doubt that their engine is one of the best, the problem is they themselves can't use it efficiently. They should hire some fsecure programmers.

I ve installed it on my XP 32 bit machine.

It is a package of around 220 megs.

It installs in intermediate skin mode (the only available) and you can turn on/off: the real-time shield ,antiphishing ,autoupdate and the in the BD cloud like services.

You can t add exclusions or customize the AV real time shield.
Seems much heavier than Avast 6 (with all shields on) on my dual core AMD X2 550 BE AMD + 4 Gigs of RAM based system.

    There is a drag feeling.

It detects eicar test in real time so i presume it works in detecting real threats.

You don t really need to know romanian as there is not to much to set up in it.

If you want your language version explore here the parent directory ,maybe they will post your version in the future : http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/desktop/free/final/ro/

It s not light ,but it seems to work.

I don t know what you understand from "bloatware".It s not some antivirus suite with all kinds of features (firewall ,back-up and so on) ,it s just the antivirus module included.

Seems to be a stripped down version of the BD suite as there is a greyed out firewall option in the meniu.

It feels heavy maybe due to a specific real time shield setting. As we dont have acces to the advanced settings i can t say anything.
The trial version felt a little lighter anyway.

People with W7 or Vista could give it a try , maybe the XP version is a little untweaked.

Just try it ,though Avast could be a better alternative resource wise.

Anyway BD has released a free AV with real time protections and i consider this something spectacular ,i wouldn t have expected it . :)
Maybe they will start optimizing the AV having this version around.

LE: And forgot to tell ,no nag screens ,no askbar installer ,no pop-ups to upgrade to payed and so on.It s like having a payed antivirus. To bad you re not in the mood to learn 2-3 romanian words.Ask the words and i ll translate them for you. :)

Is it possible to copy and paste text from the BD GUI and/or the PopUps?

I don t know i did not tryed ,i doubt you can.
I ve uninstalled it as it looked heavy for my test machine ,went back to bullguard(a free licence) ,that finally works and looks very light.Strangelly Bullguard reacts faster.

If you try it and you don t understand the interface you can post pictures.
Most of the words used in the interface are english imported terms (in romanian language we import technical terms as they are in their original language mostly) so you should be able to understand most of the interface (maybe better than the portuguess version).Eventually install a trial and then compare some printscreens for what you have in the english with what is in the romanian or portugues versions.

The negative thing is the performance impact.

I wonder whats the detection rate compared to the trial factory settings.

Normally the performance should be good; but i experienced BD to be buggy and causing slowdowns because of that. I think that happend to you'r test maschine.

BD is the best engine out there, in my opinion, hopefully they will release a stable version soon...
