I installed the trial version of acronis true image software. The version is 9.0.2337. The installation went fine and the product is running fine. I created one image of the harddrive partition fine onto an external USB 2.0 drive. The external drive is connected to USB 2.0 ports in PCMCIA-USB card.

The problem is - Whenever I try to eject this external drive, I am getting the Blue Screen of Death with bad_pool_caller 0x000000c2 error. This never happened before.

After several reboot and experiments, I have found that the external drive runs perfectly fine when it has been plugged in when the computer boot or when I plug it after the computer has completed bootup and I log in. The problem only happens when I eject the drive.

Another problem is when I get this error, there is no memory dump created although I have it configured to dump kernel memory on crash. Once after doing certain experimentation, it did create a dump (just a random event, hasn't happened again), and analysing it using windbg, I found that error was in mountmgr.sys.

Uninstalling the trial version did not get rid of the error.

    Reinstalling also did not help.

Plugging the external usb drive to USB 1.1 port on laptop motherboard resulted in a different error. I forgot to capture the error and I dont have the patience to go thru another reboot right now.

Plugging an USB flash drive in the USB port on pcmcia card's usb port works fine. I can eject it without getting the BSOD problem. its only the external HDD drive that I am having the problem with.

The external drive has 3 partitions. 2 of them NTFS partitions, 80 GB each and one is a 10 GB FAT32 partition with remaining 30 GB or so free.

    My system configuration
    Dell Latitude C610
Windows 2000 SP4 with all the latest microsoft patches
McAfee virus scanner with latest patches
    Microsoft AntiSpyware with latest patches
Syba PCMCIA USB card (It has ALI chipset)
External USB drive is a 200 GB USB 2.0 seagate brand drive.

I have not installed any hardware in the last few weeks. Nor have I installed any software in the last few weeks on this machine.

I hope acronis support can identify the problem and come up with the hotfix. Till then I have put off buying this product. Thats a shame because I was impressed with the speed with which I was able to create the image.

    - Cincy.

    Hello Cincy,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

I'm afraid that the problem is not related to Acronis True Image 9.0. It's probably caused by a memory failure or bad boot driver. You will need to boot to the recovery console and turn off the service it refers to or check for BIOS RAM timing/faulty memory problems. We recommend you also to contact Microsoft Support Team to clarify that issue.

    Thank you.
