Backup an XP partition to a network storage device

Hi All,
I have a laptop with an 80 gig partition running xp, of which only 16 meg is used, to a network server. I would like to do this efficiently, i.e. only back up the 16 meg as opposed to the full partition, but also be able to restore the disk so that it boots and works as normal should i ever need to restore it by formatting the disk and running a restore program.

Can any of you recommend a tool that will do the job?

If you are speaking of taking data from your partition, say drive d:, and copy it to a network drive, say \\server\backup, there are many approaches.

Perhaps the most fundamental would be a batch file using xcopy. Open a dos prompt and type in xcopy /? for help.

You can find many websites with examples and already written batch files for this.

You could also use simple scripting like vbs or wsh. A very easy to learn language would be AutoIt, and I know there are example scripts to do just what you ask in the forum.

If you are archiving them, I would use the command line version of 7zip in a batch file to make a zip file of your 16meg with the date appened to it, then just copy that one file to the network share.

is the 16mb a typo?
are you talking about imaging a system partition and storing it on a server/network attached storage?
if so i recommend eiether paragon drive backup pro (the pro version has a windows based recovery cd which has better network and driver support)
or shadow protect desktop it also uses a windows based recovery cd.
