Avast, is it reliable, will it continuw with 99% detection?

Hi. I used to use avira antivir premium in my system. Then I looked the av-comparatives.org and av-test.org latest results, and I thought that while avast is free, is much lighter in my vista than avira, and offers a complete protection, with a boot scan ability etc, and the most important, it has higher detection rates than kaspersky, almost as avira, why not to use it?
The point is, will it continue to offer so high detection? Or it was something lucky, like "it was his best period" and this success won't happen again?
Edit: Do you know when will version 5 of avast will be released, and when will be av-test.org will release their next av test?

I am not saying that Avast is bad , but who says that avast is better then kaspersky and soon as good as avira? hm

just look at the Retrospective / ProActive - Test and see how good it is.
When an AV is good both at Retrospective / ProActive - Test and at On-demand comparative then you can call that AV for "GOOD" detection rate.

I don't have anything against Avast but it can never be so good as Kav and Avira, sorry I personaly don't belive it, but we'll see.

Avast did get a better score in the latest AV-Comparatives than Kaspersky.

Using the AV-C retrospective test to gauge an antivirus is a bit silly. Are you going to fret about how well your antivirus performs after you let it go unupdated for weeks? Is that likely to happen at all?

Why not look at the on-demand comparatives instead, which is a much closer description of how well your antivirus is going to serve you if you use it as intended?

 

Ok, but when was kaspersky good at proactive detection? It was gaining a standard. Yeah, it is really hard to believe that avast is better than kaspersky, it isn't normal, kaspersky lab is maybe the greater, but, I was really impressed from latest results of avast. Kaspersky had lower detection rates than avira the past few tests. Both at on-demand and proactive tests. Why does someone have to use kaspersky then?
Finally, have we to decide taking accounts these tests or not? If yes and avast continues with these steps, then why not?

That depends on your point of view. Me, I'd take ~25 thousand more detected malware over 20 less FPs any day.
