avast is flipping out

I do feel sorry for any corporations that have deiced to use avast. Those techs are going to want to kill them self's when they get into work today.

 

My Avast! i have installed on 3 PC's nerfed all 3 Online-Armor installations. Gonna take some work getting them back xD

 

I don't see what's all the fuss about this.
Every company had one or another such problem eventually. If they haven't, you can be assured they WILL have such problem at some point. There is no way avoiding or predicting this.

That's fine. And I agree a company will have a problem like this hear or there, But fixing 500+ computers because of your AV has to make you die a little inside. This time the attack did not come from outside but from within. With how trusted AV's are inside a network sometimes they can do far MORE damage then a virus could ever do.

 

I just wonder how many newbies out there went into panic mode and started blowing off the files instead of putting them in the chest. Avast! says they have close to 100,000,000 users. If just 1% did the deed, that would be about 1,000,000 computers. Look at the problems Comodo had with their virus definitions awhile back. Avast! did get a handle on it quite quickly and I would give them credit for that. **** happens.

 

The advantage Avast had was In America, as most people were already asleep when this hit and was fixed before the East coast started business. Unfortunately that does not help the rest of the world that was in the middle of there work morning/day.

 

Problems like this really highlight that there is no substitute for an image backup. Unfortunately, far too many people don't understand the concept and/or don't bother.

 

This stunt might have been part of the celebrations for the 100 millionth customer. What a great way to get global publicity on such a remarkable milestone

Avira and Avast are two different products,you may wanna inform the "blogger"

 

It depends how they worked with Avast'settings before. Like in Norton patch issue. In both the issues were fixed promptly.

A flipping out question/inference indeed.

You have to be dead drunk and stupid by nature to expect such stunt to gain you market share and profit (and users).

 

No offense, But this is pretty much most the population that uses a computer.

 

I'm amazed how something like this could get past the testing phase, really.

 

Also I mean no offense, but I must say there are a lot of very intelligent people who use computers as a tool, and have no interest in the inner workings and theories.
Just because one does not know how to fix problems, and which security applications to use does not mean he is stupid.

If by some wild stretch of the imagination you are right about this, it could only be because Vince Steckler joined the company as CEO, and previously, Vince served as senior vice-president of consumer sales at Symantec.

Aside from the fact that I knew avast would take a turn for the worse as soon as they brought a Symantec suit onboard... ... what a perfect fit for the conspiracy fans out there.

Maybe some drunk blogger will puke out a piece that blames Symantec for this fp fiasco!

Human error. In an attempt to solve another (much smaller) problem, a person didn't follow the common procedure, bypassed some of the checks designed to prevent such screw-ups, and went ahead and released the update. All in a good will.

I guess that's how most bad things happen, really.

That is the cause of most computer related problems. But every company has there day VLK unfortunately today was yours. Live and learn go on with a better product.

 

I think the blogger likes norton.

 

None of my systems with avast were affected.

But if they were, I'd weigh up how avast has saved my bacon over the years (and that I'd probably be performing many system rebuilds in the past), how it's saved the hip pocket to all my family and friends, and that a new version is in the works which should be even better.

In my mind, you're forgiven. Good write-up with the help file by the way - easy to read and understand.

 

Your view is a much too casual for my liking Vlk. The person responsible should have been terminated on the spot. I've been following the thread over at DSLR and if the described chaos on that board is an example of what's happened elsewhere, your company should be posting a 100,000,000 apologies. Also, your silly picture on your forum doesn't do the gravity of the incident justice. I spent over three hours getting my box running again and have now installed Avira in addition to a-squared! I don't think you really understand how much damage your company's done.
