For the past couple of years, ASUS has made what could be considered the most impressive gaming phones out there. In 2018, the first ROG Phone featured an overclocked Snapdragon 845 and a 90Hz AMOLED display, and in 2019, the refresh rate was bumped up to 120Hz, the battery grew to 6,000mAh, and of course, it featured the latest Snapdragon silicon.

Speculation about the next ROG Phone has been around for a while, and now, ASUS has published a countdown page for the reveal of its upcoming gaming phone, as spotted by Android Authority. The handset will be revealed on July 22, exactly one year after the ROG Phone II was announced.

While the company isn't saying much about the handset until then, most of its specs were leaked last month. According to Chinese certification agency TENAA, the phone will feature an overclocked Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset - likely to be known as the Snapdragon 865+ - up to 16GB of RAM, a 120Hz display, and the same 6,000mAh battery as last year

The ROG Phone 3 will launch in the US this September and Asus hasn’t yet shared a price. Its predecessor was $899.99, so given the yearly spec bumps and other feature improvements, expect it to straddle the $1,000 line.

What’s the point?
The phone will ship in the US in September, but for now, we'll make do with the prices for Europe. The 8GB/256GB version is €799 ($925), the 12GB/512GB version is €999 ($1156), and the 16GB 512GB version is €1,099 ($1,272).

With any of these "gamer phones," we've got to ask, do people like gamer phones? Anyone in the normal PC gamer "ROG" demographic probably doesn't care much for mobile games, and if you really do, an iPhone is a much better gaming phone, thanks to the bigger game library and console-like hardware standardization.
To further confuse the whole "gamer phone" idea, the phone comes with a three-month trial of Google Stadia. Since that's a cloud-based gaming platform, it doesn't require super-high-end hardware like this and won't run at 144Hz.

ASUS on Monday announced that its latest gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 3, is now available in the U.S., and you can get it through Amazon, B&H, or the ASUS Store for $999. There’s also a version you can get with a whopping 16GB of RAM for $1,099. The phone is compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile, and their various MVNOs, and yes, that includes support for VoLTE/VoWiFi.
