I have TI9 and wonder if anyone has used it backing up to FreeNAS? If so, was the FreeNAS driva NTFS or UFS? I assume that >4GB files are OK.

    Hello MPSAN,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Acronis True Image (any edition) fully supports NAS devices for backup archive files storage. So we do not expect any issues or troubles with FreeNAS devices also.

We are always at your service should you have any further questions.

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Alexey Bogomolov

Thank you. I formatted the drive I use for FreeNAS as UFS file system and it supports >4GB files. This should work fine. I had just wondered if anyone out there is actually doing this. This FreeNAS software seems like a great way to turn an old PC into a NAS! It only took me 10 minutes to get it going!

What kind of performance do you get? Backup, normal writing, normal reading?

Not too bad. I did a copy and it took an hour for about 26GB on a 100MB LAN. I also mounted a backup in windows and it, too worked and was very fast. In fact that did not seem any slower that using an External USB2 drive.

I put a 160GB WD drive in my old system that I am running FreeNAS on and formatted it as UFS.

This is a great program and it is FREE. Also, you can test it by having a blank, formatted Floppy, and booting the CD. I do not think I will install it as this setup seems just fine. I can share the NTFS and FAT32 drives in this box and even use the system for XP and Ubuntu if I want by just booting it without the FreeNAS CD in the CDROM.

Yes, so far it is OK and the FreeNAS drive is formatted UFS and supports >4GB file sizes.

FreeNAS seems like a great way to use an older clunker system!
