Acronis TI 8, TI 9 & DVD-RAM

I have Acronis TI 8 v937 & have burnt DVD-RAM discs & Acronis is able to explore these in Windows, but it does not recognise the discs when I attempt to restore.
I also note the TI 9.0 FAQ states this version does not support DVD-RAM.

Please can you inform me of approximate timescale when TI will support DVD-RAM.

DVD-RAM works with Acronis 8.937. The best method of use with DVD-RAM is to do following;

1) Format blank DVD-RAM media using Drag to Disc (Quick format is OK)

2) Exit (shutdown) Drag to Disc from system tray

3) Start True Image & Create Backup image as Normal to DVD-RAM drive

I've created & restored an image using above method, and it operates OK.
Acronis TI 9 operates correctly without having to exit drag to disc, again I've been able to restore images using Fujifilm DVD-RAM rewritable, an LG GSA-4167BAL DVD multi drive with WinXP Pro SP2.

My experience is similar to that of EE. I use an older LG GSA-4082B and TI8.796. I have never found it necessary to format a new disk as they almost all come preformatted to UDF 2.0. About the only quirk is that TI recognizes the LG drive as a "CD ROM". My UDF software is not Roxio but the Panasonic DVD RAM driver supplied with the drive. Left to its own, TI writes to the disk(s) in a series of 2GB files. Restoring an image requires quite a bit of disk swapping but works perfectly if one carefully follows the TI instructions. Panasonic 3x disks speed things up but they must be kept very clean.

Please be aware that this is a normal situation when a DVD writer is shown as a CD burner in Acronis True Image. This doesn't affect the device's functionality and you can use DVD.

Have I missed something here- the faqs say nothing about EXITING Drag to Disc - is the fact I'm not doing this part of the problems I' having with TI?

If yes- please could someone explain why it's an issue - I've obviously mised the point of this UDF stuff!

Although the Fujifilm discs are preformated (I cannot confirm format type used) my experience was that although TI 8.937 went through the process of backing up, the image files created would not restore. Although TI 8.937 running on Windows could explore the image files & verify they were OK, when using the TI boot application the files would not be visable, and hence could not be used for restore. Formating the DVD-RAM with Drag to Disc resolved this problem.

If I left 'drag to disc' operating when using TI 8.937 to backup, TI would crash at some point during the operation (I don't remember exact crash message)
