I'm running Windows OneCare version and I'm behind a linksys router. I know Microsoft security products don't match up well with others like kaspersky but I got a good deal on OneCare. With the router am I basically safe enough?

I guess yes, but safe is a relative term. If you are safe surfer and do not download any strange applications, codecs, click on email attachments and any other person which has access to your pc does the same than you are resonably safe.

If you are asking about detection rates as a measure of safety: I would say that you are unprotected.
If you are asking about added protection to your hardware router, common sense, backup strategy and (if you like) some sandbox/virtualization app: I would say that you are safe enough.
