    Hi,

I am looking for a free video calling/chatting/talking software. I know there is Skype. I want to know if it's the best. And what are the better options.

    Best Wishes,

Are we talking about software for a Windows based PC? With the variety of devices and OSes in use today one would not want to assume.

i think it's the 'best' just by the sheer number of people who are using it.
Skype itself is quite good, i think.

i like that you can call ordinary phone numbers for a small fee.
i been able to cut down quite a bit on cell phone monthly bills by using Skype. :)

I'm only looking for video calling chatting. I just to keep in touch with some friends and family via video calling. I want to get the best experience but want it to be free. :)

well, the thing is almost everybody is using Skype.

if you use something else, then you will have to ask your friends and family to use that something else also.

    i don't think that's gonna float. ;)

I only do video chats occasionally and I do them using AIM. Just about everyone already has AIM on their computer so they don't have to load new software.

I don't know how it compares to other programs such as Skype - I assume it has less functionality - but it is sufficient for my needs.

Skype will probably win out here. Windows Live Messenger will also do that. I haven't used that functionality in a long time because nobody will talk to me. :D :(

If you want to video chat with just one person at a time then Skype is the best free option IMHO. You have to pay to do three or more "conference" video chat (conference audio chat is free). I've also used ooVoo which works quite well. The only advantage over Skype is support for three way video chat for free.

Okay thank you all. I think I would go with Skype.

It seems I would only get the followings with the free one:

    Skype-to-Skype calls
    One-to-one video calls
    Instant messaging
    Screen sharing

Oh well I think I will be alright. :)

I think Google+ hangout allows group video calling. What do you think about this guys? Is it good?
