repairing infected files

    avast home is probably the best, assuming you install it before any infection.

    I'm not sure where to find any tests, but of the freebies, I'd think avast! would be the leader because of the virus recovery database it creates. I don't know if this is the case, but it's a strong selling point and one of the reasons I use it.
