I have never used Registry Mechanic mechanic, but after reviewing the specifications, it looks like the new version of Spybot Search & Destroy (v1.3) will do the same thing. If you go to Tools and click on System Internals, then you will find a registry cleaner there.

dear ritaann, looks like you changes your avatar again. i used Registry Mechanic and its good program as it can find errors where other cleaners fails. but like almost all registry errors these doesn't hamper our daily operation. another cleaner worth mentioning its name is RegSupreme from www.macecraft.com. if you want a free one then get Crap Cleaner from www.ccleaner.com. its pretty powerfull too.

Ritaann I can also vouch for recommendations provided by AMRX.

I use RegSupreme PRO and I also have Crap Cleaner.

Now that one is really good also in terms of cleaning temp files, etc. etc. Actually it's probably the best one I have used.

Originally when I got it, I thought I would give it a test [on the temp files alone] so I used MRU Blaster, Internet Sweeper first. Then I ran Crap Cleaner. What a difference, it initially cleaned an extra 50Mb of junk it found, old log files, etc. etc.

    Cheers, TAS

Here's what it looks for in Registry.

Note: When running the other cleans, it finds and deletes straight up, no second choice.

With Registry, it finds but then gives you chance to backup first, clean or still exit which is what you want.

also when you're using Ccleaner's registry cleaner remember to run it untill it gives you NO ERROR. its because after cleaning some errors this powerful cleaner also finds more error generated due to the cleaning. not kidding and its safe.

Oh yeah, I got a bit of a shock the first time that happened. Definitely does a thorough job.

I just gave CCleaner a try. I believe it's a keeper. Very nicely done.

Anything called Crap Cleaner has got to be nicely done. ;) I'll give it a try too.

make sure you make a backup folder, and backup what you are deleting.

I just ran Crap Cleaner, and it deleted 83.5 megabytes in 14.113 seconds. It's a powerful, yet simple tool to use. The only issues that I have with it is there is no on screen help, and there us no user manual. I wish that it would explain the different categories and what the consequences are of deleting the items. It needs an Undo feature for those times when you say; "Ooops, I did not mean for that to happen”. And finally, there needs to be a way to export the log to a file.

Do any other cleaners have these features that I mentioned?

One other thing that I forgot to mention about Crap Cleaner. I noticed that it generated network traffic when I started it. I do not have Port Explorer installed on this PC, but I do have it at home. I will try it at home and capture the packets with Port Explorer tonight.

I had all applications closed and I saw my VPN icon glow for a long time, which meant that it was only Internet traffic. I can't say for certain what caused the traffic.

    Hey Tassie Devils & AMRX,
Revisiting your posts #7 & 6, respectively, you two have direct knowledge of both macecraft's RegSupreme and Crap Cleaner used as a registry cleaner (I know Tassie has used them both, and AMRX has implied it).

Are you two saying that Crap Cleaner's registry cleaning ability is just as good as RegSupreme?

    Thanks,
    Stro

i used it and cleaned the registry and there were 64 items so i fixed them-- and also tons of junk from the clean scan--only one bad thing it removes all your cookies even the ones you need-but i really like the prog--i'll definetly use it often
    thanks

    Rita,

You don't have to delete your cookies. Just uncheck what you don't want to clean.
