partition

im runnin vista home premium and have 1 hd 300 gb,i have my c 280 gb and another partition which is 20 gb.how can i increase the 20 gb partition?

 

You need a partition manager if you want to repartition your drive without losing any data. Any partition manager like paragon partition manager, acronis disk director etc will do. They are not free.

If you do not care for your data then you can use your hard drive's manufacturers utility to repartition your hard drive. You will have to boot into the utility before loading Vista. Repartition your hard disk to your liking, then reinstall Vista and all your programs.

 

Easeus Partition Master home Edition and GPARTED are both freeware partitioning utilities that will allow for resizing and/or partition creation without data loss.

I recently resized my partitions. I used Easeus Partition Master home Edition and had no problem at all. I recommend this app. It is forever in my toolbox now.

However, please be aware that is does not currently support 64-bit.

 

I have always had a paid partition manager on my computer (currently using Paragon hard disk manager pro) so I never went hunting for a freeware. It is nice to know there are freeware partition managers around. I will keep the above links in mind from now on. A decent partition manager is a must-have utility for any computer user in my opinion.

 

A decent partition manager that support 64 bits is Partition Wizard Home Edition - Free.

I have used several paid ones myself, but found GPARTED linux based live cd to work easier than any I have used simply because of the drivers that are provided. After using a ps2 mouse and keyboard and then switching to a usb mouse and keyboard after my last build, GPARTED was the only one that had drivers that worked well with my hardware. It has a nice clean UI also.

BTW since you have Vista, you should be able to shrink your c partition and then extend your 20G partition in disk management.
