    A simple poll.
Do you use a multi-protocol IM client? Which one?
    Options:
    -GAIM.
    -Miranda.
    -Trillian.
    -Meebo (web-based).
    -Other. Specify which one.
-I use single-protocol IM client (MSN, YM, ICQ, Google Talk, AIM, etc).
    -I don´t use IM.

Also, add a post with a little explanation regarding your choice. For example:
"I like client xxx because it´s feature-packed, speedy, lightweight, cross-platform, open source, secure, web-based, etc"
If you choose "I use single-protocol IM client" explain why you don´t like multi-protocol clients.

back in the day, trillian was my preference for IM. it had skins and tons of options that u could tweak. however, because it took a while to tweak all those settings i stopped installing trillian.

now i just use AIM Lite and only when absolutely necessary. i liek it because its light and it has a good gui. i also like miniaim. its smaller, requires no installation, and is more configurable. the gui is rather plain though.

I use Miranda, because I do not want to run dozen of IMs just to be in touch with all people.
It is safe (I block files), uses min RAM (1 MB in systray), looks nice, is usefull (weather), etc.

I´m waiting for the new Trillian. I used to use IM2 which is no longer being developed plus it doesn´t work anymore. Before that I used Easy Message, very simple app but the developer sold it to Zango. :thumbd:

    never really did much IM
did even less after it became a serious target
but when forced to now and again I used GAIM
that is till I found meebo

    when I build boxes,
I stuff the first link in the Firefox bookmarks toolbar with a link to meebo

I'd have to say, GAIM does come in handy at times with the spell checker.

However, the beta 6 has taken away a few features that I find critical. I guess everyone has their own preferences.

Trillian was always the lightest for me, and the most visually appealing. It would slow down the screen if too many windows appeared at once though.

Trillian. Funny thing, tho: when I originally had AIM installed, PeerGuardian would go bonkers every time I started it. Then, when I installed Trillian, it stopped just like that. I can still connect, everything works as it did before, only now A0L isn't probing my computer on HTTP like it's going out of style. Weird.

I'm a user of MSN protocol only, but once i tried the software mentioned above.

Trillian is an interesting alternative for this category. It is hard to give up, if you pay attention to visual effects and original sounds.

But I wasn't surprised to see GAIM leading, because it works miracles! It uses almost no sources and is very light, which deserves "Performance Award". Besides, it has a very simple interface and is very easy to use.

I have never heard about Meebo...

    I use single-protocol IM client (Skype) :)

Edit: Is there any way to find out when an account has been registered?

I tried a number of them, including Miranda and Trillian, and went with Pidgin on both Vista and Ubuntu.
