Thanks for putting the list together. Some products like Ghost Security (AppDefend/RegDefend) have seen no development in over two years and offer no support.

For me, only classical HIPS are " HIPS "; the others BB, Sandboxes, IDS... but not HIPS.

    Exactly...
Is the same thing to say dog=wolf. They're similar, but absolutely not the same thing imho...

Anyway it depends on what we accept under the definition of "hips". I prefer to interpret it strictly...

What pray tell is the point of posting a list like this where many of them are discontinued.

Do you really think there is any value in that?

I wrote many of them are discontinued ,not unavailableo_O . An interested person can get these HIPS from available sources.:)
for example SSM , RTD . they are available from many sources.

    Seeing this reminded me:

The techsupportalert page doesn't mention, let alone define, "classical HIPS".
Neither does wikipedia (or I just couldn't find it mentioned on that site)

Someone pointed out recently that I had mis-labeled Malware Defender by referring to it as a "policy-based HIPS" (instead of a "classical HIPS"). Classical? Classic? Classicalistal? Where's the definitive description of what's what? Was the phrase "classical HIPS" coined right here, in the Wilders forum?

    "Intrusion Defense" article
    http://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/articles/2761.aspx

    All of these:
    IDS
    NIDS
    HIDS
    DIDS http://www.dshield.org/indexd.html
    NIPS
    HIPS
    IPS
and several more, are described in various whitepapers.

Suites with various features... the lines are necessarily becoming blurred,
but c'mon, the vendors keep piling on fandangled proprietary nomenclature with every new release.

"DasherAndDancerWare Labs announces MeepitFire v2.2.121064.147 RC
    featuring AntiStealthistic Proactive Suspense
    "

In fact i consider not sufficient the documentation around hips softwares.
95% of people does not know about its existence, and even users (that know about it) are confused about its use and are not able to understand its mechanisms..These aspects reflect the documentation, that is often superficial, incomplete and confusing.

I'm sorry but this is my opinion about it.

    Regards
