Host Intrusion Prevention System/Software. It is the software used to protect a host from unknown network attack. Rather than relying solely on scanning data for signatures of known attacks, HIPS works with the operating system kernel to block abnormal application behavior in the expectation that the abnormal behavior represents an unknown attack.

If you do a search on 'HIPS' at Wilders, you probably can find all the popular HIP software available for home user so far.

I have never tried Mcafee, so I am not sure if host intrusion prevention is available in Mcafee firewall. HIPS is hot on the market of home computer security at this time. A lot of, if not all of, companies are trying to put the label HIPS onto their security products now.
