I might take a look at those two extensions. I'm not a big fan of extensions, to be honest. I like a clean web browser... and use third-party stuff to the least possible, but I actually had to start looking at extensions, such as AdBlock Plus, otherwise there wouldn't be a way to block certain ads (banners, animated gifs) wasting monthly traffic. I'm enjoying AdBlock Plus so far.

I don't think I need things like Ghostery or Chromeblock, though. Most of ads and trackers are blocked using a hosts file... AdBlock Plus takes care of the rest... But, who knows...

I'm looking other extensions, though... that provide a certain functionality to the web browser.

I'm not sure if they've been mentioned before, but here it goes:

Download Assistant (by Google) - this one may be useful... who knows. I'll give it a try.
Google Dictionary (by Google) - for those words I may not known about them; whatever language they are (among those I understand, of course lol)

I also have AVG LinkScanner Search-Shield extension. Unfortunately, those who would like it, will have to download the full AVG LinkScanner and either extract the contents... using perhaps something like Universal Extractor... or actually temporarily install it. :(

They could provide it at Google extensions store, though. I wonder why they don't... I get it, though... to work together with Surf-Shield protection.

I'm using TrafficLight, by BitDefender. But, disabled at the moment, while issues between it and Search-Shield are worked out.

I'm still discovering the extensions world...

I use this extension, it is quite useful, especially for me as I'm not an American & it can explain some US idiomatic expressions, & it also will inform me who some American personalities are. Especially those who are not well known in England (like Baseball players etc).

I quite like Ultimate Chrome Flag, SaferChrome & FlashBlock.

I personally make use of the click to play feature to block plugins (like flash), and then play them when needed.

One thing I noticed with AdBlock Plus (I'm using lists Easylist, Fanboy's lists and Recommended Filters for Google Chrome) is that it uses quite a fair amount of RAM ~ 24 000 K (around that value, but never goes higher than that).

    Is that feature in about:flags?

My ABP is a steady 12,268k at the moment (Easylist & Recommended Filters for Google Chrome).

Yes. You need to enable it, restart, then go into Wrench and select the option which is now visible.

Yes, it is. You may also write --enable-click-to-play in Chromium/Chrome's shortcut. If you got more command switches, then only -enable-click-to-play.

Heck! I just opened by Chromium profile where I have ABP installed, and memory usage increased to ~40,000 K, and then decreases to ~ 20,000 K.

I'll see how it goes, if I don't like the memory usage, I'll drop it. Unfortunately, I'm not using a system on steroids, right now. :argh: I'll remove one list and see how it fairs.

It is not necessary to change to -enable-click-to-play from --enable-click-to-play if there is more than one switch. The convention is to use "--" at the start of each switch irrespective of position and "-" for internal "hyphenation".

To be honest, when I started using Chromium (+/- when it came out) I always had the first command switch with -- and the following ones with -. I guess I was always under the impression that, if the way I had them, and still do, worked/works, the other way could prevent command switches from working.

I just never really bothered to look deep into it.. Well, either way works, then. :thumb:

OK thanks. I will have to investigate this further.

I've noticed strange memory spikes like that in task manager as well.

I tried the about:flags plug-in blocker in Iron on my Vista 32 bit laptop & it seemed OK. Unfortunately on my Win7 64 bit desktop it sent Iron into a crash - shutdown loop. I have had to make a clean install! Way to go Iron!

Good job I still have Chrome! :)

Sometimes you are too lazy to use the keyboard for shortcuts :)

    Hi guys,

I admit that I did not read every page here, so feel free to smack me around for that. :p

However I am wanting to try Chrome again. These are the extensions that I use with Firefox. Can I get these same extensions with Google Chrome?

Thanks in advance for any/all replies and suggestions.

    Cheers.

Regarding AdBlock Plus, you got AdBlock Plus for Chrome from the same author as well. Regarding NoScript... there's NotScript (something like that), but you can easily manage JavaScript by globally blocking in Chrome's settings and then only allow on a per-site basis.

Is there an option to allow JS temporarily? Last time i checked it would only allow setting JS on or off forever for a site.

How can I add the Easylist Malware Domains subscription to Adblock within Chrome?

    Thanks.

The only way to achieve such, without using an extension (I don't know if there's any allowing only temporarily, though.), would be to run Chrome in Incognito, and with JavaScript globally disabled, then when seeing the JavaScript-blocked icon in the address bar, click on Manage JavaScript blocking (or something like that in English), and then add the domains you wish, allowing JavaScript only for the private session.

I'm using Chromium, so I don't exactly how Google Chrome stable version options UI is... but if it's like Chromium, there should be two boxes. The first one is meant to allow always. The second box allows only for the private session.
