Freeware Snapshot Programs?

In Windows 7, when I create a Restore Point, I assume it takes a "Snapshot" of my Windows drivers folder and Registry?

Is there any freeware imaging program that includes a function to take a "Snapshot" for a quicker and easier alternative, which takes a "Snapshot" of C:\Programs, C:\Windows, and Registry etc, and then gives ability to do a quick "Snapshot" recovery, instead of a complete imaging restore?

All that most of us have seen are FOR PAY solutions like Rollback RX, EAZ-FIX and MagicCure (all the same program, it appears).

Nothing for FREE yet that I've seen that even compares...

By the way, I have seen this happen before, where some companies try to sell the exact same program under a different package.

COMODO Time Machine 3.0 is maybe ages away from being complete.

And where do you get 1-Click Keriver FREE?

 

Comodo Time Machine is very good if you don't have a SSD.

1-Click Keriver FREE is an imaging program and not an snapshot program.

You mean Time Machine 2.9Beta? Does it work without any problems on W7? Because v3.0 is months away.

And why does 1-Click Keriver description on Softpedia say it takes snapshots?

 

The stable Comodo Time Machine v2.8

All imaging programs take a snapshot of your drive you are imaging, then they lock the drive while imaging. Any work you do with that drive while imaging is going on, it is directed somewhere else and when imaging is finished, it updates the drive.

I was a CTM user for appx. 2-hrs, during which time I experienced multiple crashes and (2) completely destroyed machne structures. I haven't looked back since.

I cannot even place that application in the same category as Rollback or any of its clones, or even consider it with the virtual sandboxing technologies... that's why I didn't mention it in my response.

 

Which one did you use? 2.8 or 2.9BETA?

 

Long time ago, I used v2.8 and it was very stable. There are many members on this forum who use Comodo Time Machine and you should ask for information.

I'm using the 2.8.155286.178 CTM version for more than 3 years now without any issues.

What OS? Windows 7 Home Premium?

If you were to install CTM, would you install 2.8 on Windows 7 Home Premium, or 2.9Beta?

And if it breaks something, how can I restore the MBR etc that CTM alters?

No, it is not. I own the PAID version and it is marketing hype. It simply gives you Grub4DOS bootmenu at Windows Startup!

CTM 3 shouldnt be to far from private testing. We were given a screenshot of the new interface and one of the devs said its based on a new architecture to improve performance and fix some major bugs.

As for 2.9, i have used it for a while on my windows 7 x64 machine and never had any problems.

 

But Keriver does a complete hard drive image restore right? It doesn't give option to restore a small snapshot in 3-4 minutes?

I heard 2.9 is slow as nails and 2.8 is fast in restoring snapshots?

 

there is a new snapshot engine in 2.9 which is slower, i dont know exactly whats improved with the new engine, most people saying it took around 20 mins. to restore a snapshot whereas 2.8 took only minutes.

 

Then why bother with 2.9, that's as long as restoring a complete image in my case.

And what's 2.9 doing that 2.8 is not for it to take so long?

I was a very happy user of CTM but unfortunately (for CTM not for me) I've changed my HDD with a SSD and that's it, no more CTM.
I'm eagerly waiting version 3.0 of CTM.

My advice is that before installing CTM make a HDD image. Just in case. There are many users happy with CTM but there are some horror stories for some users so better safe than sorry.

 

The question was about "free snapshot program"...and I know only one - CTM. Of course it can still do some problems on systems and one can see that for one user CTM is very stable and for other completely unstable and useless.
Keriver...is very goog proposition instead of classic snapshots and it's free...no matter whether is called "snapshot" or "imaging"...it's important that it's stable, easy to use, and always works very fine. Maybe i's not 2-3 min but 6-7...but time is not so important...for me important is that Keriver can always restore proper system.
