    Hello,
what is your favourite desktop environment? and why?
if you use linux do you have multiple desktop environments installed?
    i like windows desktop environment.
for linux i like both KDE and Gnome.
i like Gnome because its simple. having the bar at the bottom just for applications is great.
my favourite desktop environment for linux atm is definatly KDE.
    i like KDE4 alot more than i liked 3.5.
KDE 4.0 and 4.1 arent very mature yet.

i like anything that uses GTK+. i don't like the look and feel of Qt at all! (apart from K3B, i use that instead of gtk apps, i like the bit where tux has got his work hat on and plays the trumpet when he's successfully finished ripping stuff LOL) i really like xfce, gnome and fluxbox and only use those 3 desktops. i voted xfce in the poll

XP + Vista Inspirat Gui on Windows and KDE on Linux. But I must say that for me the nicest desktop environment at all is KDE.

Finally took the time to play with a copy of Vista Ult I was given. Loaded it on a spare hard drive in my break me PC. Have enough Clients running Vista now that I figured finally better start using and learning it so I did not look like a total noob :doubt: when called upon to assist. Then my hard drive suffered a mechanical failure. Actually sort of liked it. o_O
Have to order 2 new drives now. Vista on one, Win7 beta on the other. Actually looking forward to playing with them both.

Until then have a tweaked XP interface I really like.

ThunderZ, you can even try KDE in Windows:

    :D
A good image is of course advised, it's not final.

Thank you Pedro. Played with Linux once many years ago on a dedicated machine. I know it has come a long way.

A while back I attempted a dual boot. No back-up image, my BIG mistake. Hosed the mbr. :ouch:

Will probably eventually get a third hdd for a dedicated Linux install. It would be purely for myself. Not much demand in my area for Linux knowledge and have my hands full with Vista clients right now.

    Just teasing ya. :)
    Did you use fixmbr btw?

    Nope. Just nuke and paved.

Actually my future plans do include a dedicated Linux PC. As easy as most distros are on resources it will not require much.
All I need for the third machine is memory and a hard drive and it could be up and running today.
A little $$$ challanged right now though so it will have to wait.

Voted XFCE. It's light and fast and does exactly what I need it to do. Also, it can be beautified as much as any other DE if you so wish. Personally I just keep it simple.

Surely there are other OS for gaming. I also use Windows Xp, I used to use Windows 98 which crashed every 10 minutes or so. Before I switched over to Windows Xp I had Window 98 running pretty smooth... but still crashed. I hope Windows 7 will be good for gaming. Windows 7 is supposed to be released at the end of 2010, but when does M$ release things when they first say they will realse things :cautious: .

Where did you hear/read the "...end of 2010"? I've checked several sources, and they all say late 2009 to early 2010.

The good thing about Linux now, it supports a lot of popular gaming.

    Hello,

Just found your poll lodore, my answer is GNOME for it's simplicity and ease of use, as well as it's ability to be themed with GTK themes + Emerald.

    Just a jewel :)

    Regards,
    gkweb.
