The annual license price is a bargain -- IF you have multiple computers.

Yeah, F-Prot was not alone back in the day. In addition to Central Point, McAfee and Thunderbyte were around. I think maybe Trend Micro was around. I seem to recall it was called PC-cillin back then. Also I believe Dr Solomon's Anti-Virus was around also.

I didn't remove the post you quoted, but please no more posts on other av's. This threads topic is F-Prot.

    Thats the point. I have 1 computer. I don't want 5 licenses.

My reply was to your original question of whether there was "Any chance on licensing options for less than 5 computers". You do not get 5 licenses you receive 1 license for up to 5 Home computers!

So no there is no reduction if you have LESS than 5 computers and yes it is an excellent price if you have MORE than 2-3 computers.

Actually, it's a very decent price (and product) with 1 PC as well.

My exeprience is that, even in Beta form, it plays very nicely with Vista (I use Ultimate).

Well that is good. And it is a great product but 2 days ago I reloaded and tried to set up a scheduled scan and no matter what I did on exit, it said it wasnt scheduled. Not a big deal or a show stopper but one that needs looking at. I mean for the bucks and quality, it is the best AV deal on the market. Just need that Vista stamp.;)

lol it doesn't matter whether it is 1 license for 5 computers or 5 licenses, I'm asking if there will be a cheaper option if you have less than 5 computers.

Yes it is but I'm just being tightarse :p

    Hi trjam,

Let's hope before they Vista Certify 6.0.x that they fix those nagging problems of your's (and of other's), too.

    Regards,
    Jim

What do you mean? Certification is much more important than fixing actual problems :p.

Well, the version which went into in-house testing today should get rid of most of the reported issues (Vista or otherwise).

Regarding the history of F-PROT - when I wrote the first version, back in early '89, there were several other AV programs out there - but we have somehow outlasted many of them.

Duh...this discussion makes me feel old.

Remember Frisk, you are only as old, as your software.;)

Kudos on the in-house testing for issues. Looking forward to your word.

I thought my answer was clear enough; there is no reduction in the retail price for one computer only!!!!!!

no actually it is higher for one computer.

    1-$29.00 each
    5-$5.80 each
    ;) ;) ;) ;)

Too Tu true. Since I don't need the first 4 licenses, where can I buy only the fifth license -- at $5.80?:D

But seriously folks -- I am greatly impressed with FP's maximally improved heuristics. Also -- I (for one) couldn't care less whether it EVER works on (hasta la) Vista. It works for Linux, right? When XP expires, that's where I'm probably going -- certainly NOT to (grasa nalgas) Vista.

Haggle all you want; it will not change.

If you are not happy with the present price move on to a cheaper product.

Workaround: Get a bunch of neighbors, friends on board with F-Prot and buy a corporate license.
$50 for up to 10 machines.

the price is fine, and i doubt it will change.

$29 is for a licence, which is a competitive price.... they only give it as a 5 user to meet the demand of home users.

fact is, the majority of homes have more than 1 machine, so its just pleasing to see a company understanding this and offering a service that will mean only 1 licence per family is needed.

whether its just 1pc or 5, the price will remain the same.

    1 licence = 1 family = 1 subscription

companys should understand more, that we dont want to buy 2 or 3 licences at high prices just to secure the family computers on the internet, especially when there are free AV's available.

since the 2007 versions, we have seen a big increase in companys offering this, infact the majority of licences available today are usually 1-3 pcs.

id like drweb to change it to accommodate maybe 1-3 users aswell without adding charges, like the majority have done now.

Multi license packs are becoming common lately. Several other vendors have 3 packs on consumer oriented products.

For corporate products the usual minimum is 5 or more licenses, but sometimes those first 5 cost more than 5 retail versions. When large numbers of workstations are involved, prices may be less than $5 each per year.
