COMODO Antivirus 6.3

I was wondering that we don't have topic about Comodo's AV 6 here so let's start one...


I'm considering to switch to Comodo AV for a first time. According to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScsKa1g4PvA&hd=1 (yeah not a perfect test) doesn't look too bad)


So what are your opinions about this AV? Is it good in a gaming PC? Any goods or bads? Does it have any pop-ups or other annoyances?

 

The biggest problem with it, is it's community and lack of any sort of useful support. Reported bugs also never get fixed unless you're a screaming fanboy on their forums. God forbid to say a negative comment over it because you'll instantly get banned.

So, pray that everything will work fine and in that scenario, it's not a bad program. If you encounter problems with it it's much better to just use something else than bother with their fanboys...

 

You hit the nail right on the head.!!!!

 

RejZoR has a point or two right. It's difficult to find someone without a grudge
against comodo's products or forums (myself included).

That said let me share my view of the AV.

Pros light on resources, effective AV (it came a long way),
very effective proactive defense,
highly configurable (I disable the Sandbox and activate HIPS on Clean PC Mode)

Cons Sandbox/Virtual Kiosk are far from prime time material,
updates take a bit to long to install and consume too much CPU, bugs are rarely adressed,
each new version needs at least two upgrades before being fairly stable (I only used V6 after it reached 6.3)

On this machine it's the only AV that (so far) didn't cause issues and I trust the combo Sandboxie/Defense+
to take care of whatever gets past the Signatures/Cloud. As is I'll give it a 4 out of 5.

I would have to agree with your evaluation: and if I had to pick from all the free protection options, this would probably be at the top due to protection and the fact it doesn't slow down the system (my pet peeve). I like the tweaking options but as someone said, Kiosk needs some work.

 

Agree. HIPS and firewall are very good and powerful. I never would use the sandbox, that is buggy and seems weak. And I never understood how effective is the av.

 

Could not agree more. Not to steer too far OT but I wonder if their noisy user base and controversial owner were reasons healthcare.gov ended the Comodo site certificates and replaced them with Geotrust. Nobody seems to know the answer as to why that was done.

 

Maybe geotrust were cheaper?

 

Comodo's AV has vastly improved from its earlier versions and the suite in general is very light (uses 4 processes; 17-20 MB) but I can't never understand why they classify malware with weird titles.

As you can see, most of them are "UnclassifiedMalware" they have been identified thanks to automated systems, no human analysis, it's like "Win32:Malware-gen" from avast! it's not more detailed than Comodo's.

 

We're talking a US government ran website. I don't think cost or financial integrity has anything to do with their ultimate decisions.

 

I really dont think that a security company,s integrity should hang on a thread purely because of one executive decision in regard to digi-certs.

I have also noticed that a lot of this anti-comodo nonsense always goes back to the same old blogs which are years old.

Is there is something conclusive recently which puts doubt on the comodo companies then lets hear it now,otherwise let the old gossip die a peaceful death.

 

As a PC gamer how do you rate COMODO AV in a gaming PC?

I'm testing NOD32 v7 (but sadly it's not free) atm but let's not make this A vs. B thread.

 

Great program packed full of usefull features. It`s also light on resourses, fully customisable and totally free.

You have to juggle a bit though with the installer to make sure you install only what you want but so what you can always uninstall unwanted features later.

And there you have it.

 

The blog posts in question here on wilders are years old because people got tired of reading their fanaticism and essentially put them on ignore.

 

It's seems some people with prejudices are ignoring the fact that there is no company out there that hasn't had un-satisfied customers or has not failed in fixing bugs on time.

When someone is asking for protection capabilities, i would advice people to be un-biased.

As far i am concerned i haven't had any issues with comodo and is a highly recommended product.

 

Oh no sir, Comodo is in it's own class regarding this. And i'm not talking in a positive way here...

 

...that depends on how you tell the negative comments. Are you well placed to talk ?

With V6 you'll definitely get less alerts than previous versions, since HIPS is off by default.
Now I suggest you to try it out during let's say a few days (one week) then we'll see...

Best bet is to install it and try it for a while.Theres plenty of guys here who will help you configure it.I used it for a while and found it quite speedy popups frequency dependent on how its configured.I removed it eventually because for some reason i found my pc slowing down with it over time,and couldn't be hassled to find out why.Some people get a slow down over time others don't.

 

If you're trying to imply i'm being impolite when placing those comments, after being freakin constantly ignored for everything, i'm sure not gonna talk all nice and sweet around them. Because to date, they haven't shown any serious interest in anything. Just bunch of empty promises about pretty much everything with very little actually ever delivered. And buckets of praises about everything. I've had a large share of complaints over avast! as well, some took them as offensive, but so far avast! team has always taken them under advisement. Not all got changed to my recommendations, but they always worked out to improve things. Where with Comodo, i was either being ignored because i didn't put the report in their idiotic bug report format which is pointless and a complete joke or they just failed to understand plain English and i had to re-re-repost same thing over and over and i'm still not sure if they got it. That's a serious issue if company has problems communicating with their user base. And they clearly have these problems.
And i could bear all that if there wasn't this annoying layer of clueless fanboys between me and developers. And i just can't stand them, they are that annoying.

 

If you decide to install it then be careful to uncheck Geekbuddy, Yahoo, Dragon unless you need them.

The AV and the suite provides the same level of protection as by defaulf CIS firewall allows all outbound.
