    A link to your source would be nice.

    The 'source' appears to be this very poster :p

    The original poster has merely copied the article directly from the Daily Mail. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...stant-messaging-window-used-spread-virus.html)
    Any online search for this 'virus' shows the original post followed by the Daily Mail article, followed by many other articles in other languages. Not one of the first few pages links to anything by an accredited anti-virus or security company. Not even Trend Micro.

    A search of Trend Micro for this 'virus' returns no result.
    (http://www.trendmicro.co.uk/search/index.php?q=Steckt.Evl&submit=Submit&locale=uk)

    So - do we have a fake virus floating around? Or do we have a false alarm? Or possibly someone who is making some sort of 'request' to virus-writers world-wide?

    I'm sorry I forgot to quote and provide the link in my post. I indeed quoted it from Daily Mail.

    ...one of the more reliable online sources then...

    <hysterical laughter>

    On a serious note, I wonder why they should do this? It is such an easy story to check the origins, yet no-one seems to have bothered. Hey, I want a job as a science writer there! :D

    Is the infection really instant (some kind of exploit) or does an executable have to be run by user?
