There is any performance review comparing Baidu vs others?

 

Indeed who knows where they are from but the fact remains a great result on VB for UnThreat.:

 

UnThreat is a relative newcomer to the scene, hailing from Bulgaria

UnThreat AntiVirus Free Edition is using VIPRE engine (Sunbelt/GFI)

 

I`m in no way trying to infere that UT is the "be and end all" rather like Baidu it`s perhaps better deployed as a complimentary component in a layered type defence set-up (and it`s soooooo light).

Is Bulgaria a bad place ? People holiday there and come back in one piece......I hope.

Regarding the Avira update problem in BAV. The Baidu people told me by email today that the Avira defs in addition to auto update can now be updated manually and independently of their own defs, by clicking the 'umbrella' at the bottom of the home page and then update.
This is not something I've seen before so apologies if you already knew this.

I am tempted to try the v4 beta soon, but I don't think it will be light enough for me, as I had some issues last time I used Baidu.

I want an antivirus which is light 100% of the time. Being light even 90% of the time is just not good enough for me.

Thanks for the links. I might give it a try. Last time I used it was the heaviest AV I'd ever used, but I'm sure a lot has been improved since then.

Confirm above values, WSA 2014 installed/tested in two old PC's (Win XP, P4 CPU, 512 & 1GB RAM).

Memory use does not matter, as unless your system does not have enough RAM installed, less RAM usage does not make an AV lighter.

WSA was reaching 96% CPU, and that was what was making it so heavy.

 

I just installed the v4 beta on a customer's computer, and I am impressed. The interface looks very polished indeed, and hopefully this new version will be extremely light.

Yeah, I'd be skeptical about installing a beta security program on a client's system unless that person was fairly computer savvy themselves. Beta, by its very nature, is unpredictable.

 

Yes. If it causes any problems - which I doubt there will be - I will fix them at no charge.

What does that mean in regards to how Baidu and OA interact?

 

I have a quick question:
Does the Tray Application (BavTray.exe) always need to be running for Baidu Antivirus to perform properly?

Absolutely not. It is running very smooth and light and the update issues were solved weeks ago, it is updating regularly now. No complaints with it so far.

 

With version 4, I need to know how to disable the proactive defense so that real time protection is enabled, but all of the HIPs components are disabled.

I do not want to use Baidu with HIPs, due to the fact actions are automatically blocked after a period of time. This is not a problem when I'm actually using my laptop, but is a huge problem id a prompt comes up when I'm away from my laptop.

 

There's been a couple of newer beta versions in the last few weeks. The latest one is 4.0.3.49567 available from their website under 'try beta version'.
