I have the 4.8 latest version of Avast and when I run a scan, the files are scanning correctly but the percentage is slow..like it was still 1 percent of complete scan and it was already a long time at that time too. And when I was doing this scan, it was a quick scan. Do you think this is normal?

Do you have it set to "scan archive files"?

Yes I do..I always have that one checked when I scan for viruses. On my laptop, the percentage runs fast even though I have archives enabled but just on the PC, the percentage runs slow. I even unchecked the archives but it's still the same.

That appears to be not normal. What are the specs of the PC, and what other security software is running?
After commencing scan, do you see the "scanned file" count in the GUI steadily increasing? (Some files scan quickly, others take longer, of course, so the rate fluctuates.)
PS what is the capacity/space used on the disk?

Same here ! The scan takes a very long time even with archives unchecked

Yes, the avast-scan is slow, but hey, take a cup of coffee and relax while you wait ;)

How much time are we talking about exactly?

I think for an AV, any AV, scanning All Files + Archives (thorough scan) on a 15-20gb disk, should take more or less about 2-3 hours.

When I had NOD32, doing a full in-depth-scan, never took more than 1:30 hours (app. 30-40 gig)

Yes, NOD32 is not to be compared with when Scan Times is the issue, because it is extremely out of ordinary fast :)

It takes 4-7 hours to complete scanning for a 30gb HD .
do you think is normal to have ti like that? AVG 8 does it in less than an hour and I wanted to specify that have also added beta

No that is way to much!

One question: What happens when you try to scan a video or a movie with Avast!? I am talking about .avi, .wmv, .mpeg files of over 100mb.

For some reason I don't know and without having changed any settings, it would take Avast! about 60 secs to scan a 300mb movie file.

Is it likely you have such files on your 30gb HD?

Running 4.8.1169 on Pentium 4 XP SP2 and a thorough scan with archives included. Scan took just over 38 minutes. :thumb:
