The crap on the Lenovo laptop turned out to be not that bad: only a trial version of McAfee antivirus and some Lenovo Now bloatware, which I both removed manually.

It also came pre-installed with a Microsoft Office trial, but I could activate that with the family member’s Microsoft/school account.

I’m only in doubt about Lenovo Vantage. I think that’s needed for driver/firmware updates and battery management?

if you dare after a backup: O&O shutup, but Windows Pro prefer GPO.
O&O Appbuster. if you cannot install it, then its really important for windows.

i set up 24h2 theses days with my personal experience - and less is still more.
telemetry is important if you want bugs fixed. shutup can disable some of them, but dont brick your windows.

lenovo is a descent hardware, but some lenovo software is claimed as adware -> malwarebytes adwcleaner

Yes, keep it, adware or not. It´s the best way to update firmwares and it provides useful information.

Oh, I did indeed run O&O ShutUp! instead of bloatware removal tools.

And I found one more application to remove: Motorola Smart Connect (apparently for Android only).

Thank you. A few sites have listed things that have been either added or "improved", but most of it looks useless...or worse.

Boy it gets time consuming after those 11 cumulative's since my PC is chalked with system icon arts as well as some old XP programs. Very useful one's. But sometimes for example after this latest one an old desktop upper screen launcher, RunMe would never retract and required having to launch one from the list for it to do so.Well much to my surprise after this last update now it AUTO retracts for the first time since before Windows 10. Definitely was worth holding on to those old custom programs from XP now. Dare i say Windows 11 after grueling opposition from me has found itself favorable.

sshot-2025-09-02-03-49-26.jpg 72 Hours marathon over 3 days 2 nights recustomizing NEW Windows 11 Install and is finally finished. One of these years i will decide to gather everything in one place in event of such new install and won't be searching all the massive enhancements to bring a new system to expected satisfaction. i'm still ready for the Windows 12 announcement to spring out from the research offices for a test run.

25H2 is just piddling around to keep things relevant for them. And to keep software developers and us busy. For the time being anyway.

It's been a rocky road with 11 in spite of it shoring itself up some better lately.

I'm not expecting to see anything with Windows 12 in the next year at least.

I'm on Release Preview, 25H2 doesn't seem any more significant than most cumulative updates.

I'll honestly say I liked Vista more than I do 11. At least post SP1.

I just fresh installed Win11 25H2. ISO from UUP DUMP. No problems.

I did the same. The upgrade didn't work, but a clean install did. But I reimaged back to 24h2. 25h2 seems like is was nearly double the size, and isn't yet worth the hastle.

Good to know. How did it seem Brian?

Seems like a lot of work to upgrade when the code is already on your machine. If someone wants to clean install it's a good time to do it. If not a copy of windows11.0-kb5054156-x64.msu will update 24H2 to 25H2 in a few seconds and a reboot. We've done multiple PCs without issue.

That's reassuring. Maybe i will have the same luck with it. Have a Win 11 Home O/S on a Dell. It has been unusually really flawless. Sometimes that worries me when it comes to these bigger Upgrades.

    Trooper,

I didn't use the fresh install for more than a few minutes. I've done 2 upgrades from a Rufus UFD. On the same computer but different Rufus UFDs. The first upgrade seemed to take "forever". The second took 26 minutes. In my brief testing of 25H2, I really can't see any difference from 24H2. But I'll keep this upgrade.

My uup dump ISO is 26200.5074 and that was the build number of the upgrade prior a Windows update. I now have 26200.6584.

After doing the upgrade and cleaning up, the amount of Free Space in the partition is 1 GiB more than in 24H2. Importantly, 25H2 doesn't use more disk space.

    A few months ago, I ordered a couple of ThinkPads T14 Gen5.
First thing I did was format the SSD’s and install a clean version of Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC. When install was complete… there was a lot less junk in comparison to Home or Pro versions.
I’ve also installed the Lenovo Commercial Vantage… for BIOS and driver updates. End result, a much more responsive system, without all the ‘fluff’.

How do you like the T14s? I have an old w530 that I'm hanging into because it still works well, but I've always wondered what I would get next if it dies one day. The W series was a workhorse; what are the Ts like? Decent build quality?

True statement for this end as well. It's a wonder with all the extras and additional stress Windows and their partners cram into those systems that they don't just seize up and blow a cork. I do notice constant wobbles in these newest versions not seen in earlier Windows Versions. It's like the focus/forms struggle to stabilize and it's most obvious on the UWP control forms and menus. Not constant but there nonetheless. Compare with any direct duplicate system menus. In fact we actually run a dual Windows system in that regard.

BTW it's NOT uncommon certain laptops are still churning along over a decade running like a well oiled machine. My 8.1 Acer Gateway is proof of longevity!

Lenovo decided to make T14 as one of very few notebooks that's easy to work on and make upgrades. And the reliability is certainly still there.... as good as my old X220. The X220 is still running with 'forced' Windows 11 Pro install. It was originally released with Windows 7.

On T14, I've doubled the RAM to 64Gigs and swapped the original SSD with the Samsung 9100Pro. Extremely easy to work on, when you're swapping components, replacing a fan or just applying thermal paste.

I remember the Acer Gateway... indestructible!
