I saw that and hope it's a bug. 24H2 hasn't been great and if 25H2 gives us stuff like that I'll be avoiding it.

it may be that registered apps with path to file have no further infos.

    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

Not needed for shortcuts. Those paths pretty much allow for an executable to be run by name without having to specify the path, because it is registered. A shortcut already knows what it points to. This is either a mistake or they are trying to take functionality away from us.

Exactly. I think I am going to go to LTSC. Not that it's great, since it's built on 24H2, it just does not have all the unnecessary junk that the regular 24H2 has.

That might be a good option if you have it. I'm hoping this is something that will get fixed. I'm surprised they haven't released this on the Release Preview channel yet. They released 24H2 in May of last year. It's not feeling like this will get a lot of public testing.

You don't have access to it? I hope this will get fixed, and all of the other bugs as well lol. I know it's wishful thinking at this point in time. Crazy that this is not in Release Preview as of yet. I find this all very disturbing.

I'm still on 23H2 (using InControl to keep it there) since every time I try to upgrade to 24H2 it fails during the install with error 0x80004005 and then backs out the update. There are numerous pages and videos on how to fix this (apparently it's a common problem), and I've tried over a dozen different "fixes" with the same result, still fails with the same error. Very frustrating!

ofc it is. START > RUN > enter "msedge" or "firefox". all kept in this path.

Nope, we're not big enough for Enterprise.

If you're on 23H2 and it won't update to 24H2 you're better off with what you have. After spending some time with 24H2 and having multiple issues I have stopped upgrading the PCs that don't have it. We're hoping 25H2 will be better.

Correct, but I am assuming the article is referencing .lnk files, which do not pull from the registry. Either I have misunderstood or we are not talking about the same thing.

i only refer to the image from neowin which shows "msedge". 25h2 is not relevant here, its preview or insider. but i assume a correlation.
