I have lost all sound. Have tried many fix attempts. sfc /scannow, check disk, all dism fixes. I cannot open device management and have tried a few things to try to remedy that. Other apps under Control Panel are fine. I also went back a few days with MR when sound was working. Made no difference. Might this be a MB problem? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I REALLY don't want to reinstall Windows.

What operating system? Win 10 or Win 11?
Have you tried uninstalling Malwarebytes as a test?
What other security software are you using?
Also what error message to you get?

    The Tweaking.com app might help.

there should be a message from mmc that the plugin could not be loaded.
anyhow this is a deeper damage. either you have a backup, or you need an "inplace repair" with the latest os build from stick. (keep apps and data)

    @ Tarnak Thanks...Made no difference.
    @ stapp Thanks...Made no difference.
@Dragon1952 Thanks...I had tried that before reporting problem here. Did not help. That surprised me. I assumed it would work with Win 11.
@ Brummelchen Thanks...My backups will not fix the problem and that is very strange. I tried reinstalling Win with cloud and saved Apps and Folders. Made no difference. I am getting close to the nightmare of reinstalling Win completely :(

I am in agreement. I can not open MMC or reg edit in order tweak there. Also, I would think that would have been fixed by reinstalling Win, as I did. Again, I did keep Apps and folders sooo...

strange that a backup, maybe macrium, wont help you out.

well, i had a recursive issue in appdata. i tried to delete it, with success, but this made almost all mmc plugins not working. so i decided to use an "inplace update" = repair from stick. you need at least 6 gigs or more drive space to run this.
you need to load the MCT (media creation tool) for your windows
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

let it write store all on stick, or on ISO file -> ISO to be used with rufus or ventoy.

when starting from stick you can chose an installation/repair without losing your personal data. this helped me out. at any time you dont have loss of personal data.

this will also repair issues in user profile without harming user data.

USA still the best. But barely.
You're saying restored images don't solve the problems. If so I'm guessing hardware failure.

That is what I have been thinking for awhile. This computer is only 3/12 years old. MB is ASUS TUF GAMING Z590 PLUS. CPU is Intel Core i7-10700k 3.6GHz. Have no idea how to check that out. Do you or does anyone?
