    Hello @Serphis:

Just in case the computer in question has difficulty interacting with sirius.mwbsys.com or local edge server, please consider downloading the offline setup file from:
    Code:
    https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb5_offline
Then, simply use the offline setup to install/update over the top of the existing application. This will update the computer's MB5 to the 129.0.5196 (Component package version) release build. This will preserve MB5 for Windows settings and its license if one exists.

Please let the forum know the computer's MB5's status after.

    Thank you.

    Hi @1PW,
before downloading the offline installer I tried once more to manually update to version 5.2.9.176 without success. It's weird because the firewall log didn't show nothing unusual and for previous versions I was always been able to update MBAM automatically or manually to the latest version. Anyway I downloaded the offline installer, I exited from MBAM by right-clicking on the taskbar icon and I installed the new version on top of the existing one. Now MBAM is updated and my license is preserved:

    Malwarebytes version: 5.2.9.176
    Update package version: 1.0.97557
    Component package version: 129.0.5196
    System architecture: x64

Thank you very much for your help

    Regards

    Hello @Serphis:

If you have the time, please try updating several times in the next few hours to see that the Update package version continues to increment.

I'm happy for you, the app itself is now up-to-date.

    Thank you. :thumb:

    Hi @1PW

I just checked MBAM version numbers and I noticed that it automatically updated "Update package version" from 1.0.97557 to 1.0.97561.

    Have a nice evening.

I had the same problem. Manually downloaded the offline installer and updated that way.

In addition to blocking the update to version 5.2.9.176 they should have removed the offline installer mb5-setup-consumer-5.2.9.176-129.0.5196-1.0.97435.exe from their servers. They probably forgot about it :p

Malwarebytes 5 for Windows v5.2.10.182-130.0.5212-1.0.97763 has been released to General Availability (GA). (03-April-2025)

    Attribution/Announcement: Malwarebytes 5

    Good day, Malwarebytes community!

Malwarebytes v5.2.10.182 component package 130.0.5212 is now available.

You can get the update right away by clicking “Check for updates” in Settings > General. Or, it will be automatically installed if you have automatic updates enabled.

    Features and improvements

    • Added two new Trusted Advisor recommendations:
      • A reminder for Identity Theft Protection customers to activate their subscription
      • A prompt encouraging new users to try our free Digital Footprint Scan
    Issues fixed

    • Fixed an issue that disabled Web Protection after downgrading from the latest beta version to the latest production version
    • Resolved incorrect notification positioning in case of screen DPI or resolution changes
    Additional notes

This release also includes all features and fixes originally introduced in v5.2.9.176 (component package 129.0.5196). That version's rollout was paused due to the Web Protection issue, which has now been resolved.

    Hello @Krusty:

The automatic application updates are more like a lottery and are likely to be still throttled after the recent initial update release. We need to remember the global CDNs need to satisfy millions of installations.

You did not clearly indicate if Settings > General > “Check for updates” was attempted and what the exact response might have been, if any.

Do you believe the computer had been receiving its Update package version (database) downloads?

    Thank you.

    Hi 1PW,

Yes, I'm sure the regular (database) updates have been received. Checking for updates said it was up to date.

Normally, MB will update Component Packages and version updates if I manually check for updates, but as you said, it could be throttled. I downloaded the offline installer and updated this machine that way. My other machine is off at the moment, so I'll check it out over the weekend, or perhaps later today. I didn't install the previous version on it, so it will be interesting to see if it updates to the latest version.

    As always, Thanks @1PW .

    @1PW ,

I just checked for updates on my other machine and it did update, but I got this from OSA:

    #5070

Maybe that's why my other machine had trouble updating.

    Thanks.

    Hello @Krusty:

In the computer with the update issues, if you haven't already, you may wish to consider adding mutual exceptions in MB5 and OSA. It's only a guess/theory on my part.

Exceptions aren't normally required, but perhaps this theory applies.

    As always, thank you, @Krusty.

I've done the next best thing on the second machine. I excluded MB from the OSA fly-out notification and will do the same on my main machine if MB triggers OSA next update. Maybe @novirusthanks will whitelist MB in the next release of OSA.

MB must have made a change in how it updates, as it has never triggered OSA before.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hello @Krusty:

With rare exceptions, mutual exclusions are normally not required. For Windows 10, Malwarebytes recommends MB5 Premium for Windows and letting Microsoft Defender remain active, as they work well together. Additional protections may slow W10 and on rare occasions may generate issues.

However, these are always personal choices that we need to respect.

Yes, seems like when using OSA, and appguard, it slows down, but with EIS it remains fast.

    Hi
The same here. MBAM said it's update (1)
But I check in 'About', check for updates and new release installed (2)

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
