What do those alerts look like, because I have never seen any. I update Edge manually by clicking on About. If you are referring to Notifications, I have them disabled in both Windows and Edge.

You are notified on the screen with the opening of a tab following the one you set as browser start after each major browser update (for example in this last update there was no notification).

I have tried disabling that setting you write about but it doesn't work.

Although I suspect (but still not a certainty I need to verify a more thorough way) that with that setting disabled I don't get a required security notification on an app to validate from the smartphone the online purchase with my credit card.

Maybe one of those, but it could be Performance detector, since an outdated browser is considered as an issue.
    Code:
rem The Experimentation and Configuration Service is used to deploy Experimentation and Configuration payloads to the client / 0 - RestrictedMode / 1 - ConfigurationsOnlyMode / 2 - FullMode
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /v "ExperimentationAndConfigurationServiceControl" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

rem Allow personalization of ads, Microsoft Edge, search, news and other Microsoft services by sending browsing history, favorites and collections, usage and other browsing data to Microsoft
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /v "PersonalizationReportingEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

rem Allow recommendations and promotional notifications from Microsoft Edge
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /v "ShowRecommendationsEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

rem Choose whether users can receive customized background images and text, suggestions, notifications, and tips for Microsoft services)
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /v "SpotlightExperiencesAndRecommendationsEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

rem 1 - Shows content promoting the Microsoft Edge Insider channels on the About Microsoft Edge settings page
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /v "MicrosoftEdgeInsiderPromotionEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

“SpotlightExperiencesAndRecommendationsEnabled” only applies to a profile that has logged into a Microsoft account so it is not this and I do not use this policy.

"PersonalizationReportingEnabled" only applies to a profile that has logged into a Microsoft account so it is not this and I do not use this policy.

“ShowRecommendationsEnabled” I set it so it is not attributable.

“ExperimentationAndConfigurationServiceControl” this policy cannot be attributable.

There remains this policy “MicrosoftEdgeInsiderPromotionEnabled” but I am not an insider program user.

firefox dont alerts with clickable hints. updates are performed in background since ages (around firefox 56). settings allow updates on restart of system, or restart firefox. user will get a notification in the menu on the right. thats it. anything else is noise, not true, a pure lie, what ever, has no evidence.

refusing updates to firefox is NOT common, its more user made, most common reason are userscripts or userChrome - but there exists communities which are able to handle such changes, not on arrival with the final, but arrival with the nightly which is 8 weeks ahead. those users are thus ahead with their knowledge and help out not savvy users. but a part of such users are still complaining over and over again because of their self made changes. listen: userscript and userchrome is your own thingy, grow up and learn about, or drop it.

so Edge - since i use it as secondary browser, ever performed updates in background and did not bother.

forks have its reason, but i dont recommend it for their knowledge, more of their short live. too many authors have dropped their work because of time, work-life balance, whatever. i have seen in 20 year so many forks coming, and leaving.
for torbrowser i know that mozilla adds knowledge and man power.

Thunderbird was a long time a community project. integrating K-9 mail client TB got some new features and ideas which are implemented by time. currently there are issues to expect, but for desktop its running well as long user has no offside settings and servers -> bugzilla!

    hi

there are so many open source , but can we know if there are safe or not?
there are so many lines of codes

for example I never trusted brave , but but I've always trusted firefox

so the alternative are waterfox and librewolf?

    @stapp

stick with firefox and its official "settings". (very rare use of about:config here)
forks only use about:config switches which are in most cases really stupid.
all forks claim to protect privacy and security, so much BS in forks, unbelievable.

No it can't be disabled, tell me how to do it. I've tried everything, but I can't stop this alert from appearing. This alone makes me hate Firefox with a passion.

You didn't respond to my last post, so I assume you now agree with me that the nagging update alerts in Firefox can NOT be disabled?

So? That's actually a good thing. Most browser updates (not only for Firefox) fix one or more (and often zero-day) security vulnerability. As the browser is the most important gateway to the internet for most users such updates should be performed ASAP. Doing otherwise is a user error, IMO.

Edge is now showing update alerts in its heart beat button. For firefox users can "dismiss" the update. or set a gpo or policy. users choice. any how the update can be performend in background and is only applied when firefox starts again (restart, or OS restart, whatever). its annoying to explain this over and over again while firefox have options for updates, and silent updates. trash talk wont help users out.

Agreed. One is living dangerously when running an outdated browser.
