Don't be too surprised. I can see it happening here in the U.S. in the not-too-distant future. After that, I suspect that every country will follow suit...all in the name of national security and protecting the people from themselves.
I disagree, I don't expect it will happen, at least not soon. Especially the idea of giving the U.K. access to U.S. customer data. In the event that I am wrong, there are other encryption options, and people should be looking into them regardless.
If any country can pull that off in developed world, it is a member of The Five Eyes. UK is one of them. But yeah, using other tools should help, especially open source ones. Edit/adres: Unfortunatelly Apple Store and Google Play don't like open source software...
Fortunately for more advanced Android users we can bypass Google Play and sideload apk's solving the issue at that level. Ultimately you may have to solve it by rooting your devices, but I hope that doesn't become necessary for us.
Great so another "fappening" where photos and other personal items are breached again!! Didn't we already do that?
I think that context especially the timing is interesting: there are calls from inside and the outside the Europe to be more self-reliant and be less dependent on good will of their allies. As the Apple services are global it means that demanding to weaken encryption of their services towards UK citizens means that Apple and possibly US services may easily access them as well. I hope EU won't follow the path of UK in this regard.
