I have no experience with VirusTotal Uploader.
What error message do you get?

    I see VirusTotal says:
    "Discontinued support For Windows uploader:
As of 2017 we are discontinuing any updates to the official windows uploader (Please see the VirusTotalUploader for an alternative, 3rd party open source uploader)"
    https://docs.virustotal.com/docs/desktop-apps -->
    https://github.com/SamuelTulach/VirusTotalUploader

Perhaps you could try the open source VirusTotal Uploader?

Yes, I saw that there is some other tool, but the official VirusTotal Uploader worked just fine until today, eventhough it apparantly was not supported since a few years.

It can still connect to VirusTotal but it can't check for hashes, see screenshot. This new open source tool doesn't seem to have a right-click context menu entry, you need to drop files to the window, seems a bit unhandy.

I am surprised it worked so far. VirusTotal made a policy change in 2016, which affected a lot, like VirusTotal scanning in ProcessHacker/SystemInformer stopped working and it will most likely never will again, though promised.

I now see that VT Uploader was last updated back in 2013, but it did indeed still work. However, I just saw another topic, I wonder if this has got anything to do with it? I hope someone can make an exact clone of it. BTW, I never used VT scanning in process monitors, I don't know if it still works in Process Explorer.

You may try to get in contact with them.
See their article (I gave the link and full quotes):
    https://blog.virustotal.com/2024/11/important-update-ip-address-change-for.html

See the following quote at the end of the article:
So, who knows whether that will help? Maybe they will make a new/updated tool? You could ask them ...

Thank you, FanJ, I thought of suggesting Rasheed the same thing.
Ten years ago, I contacted VirusTotal regarding an issue with VTexplorer, the VirusTotal browser extension for Internet Explorer. With the help of one or more security.nl community members submitting modifications for the VTexplorer code, VirusTotal was able to resolve the issue. [1]
However, VTexplorer was still supported by then. Regarding VirusTotal Uploader for Windows, the docs say it is no longer supported since 2017. [2] The docs even refer to a 3rd party open source version for an alternative. That is why I doubt if VirusTotal will offer any help with the VirusTotal Uploader issue. But Rasheed can ask VirusTotal, of course. Ten years ago, I had a good experience.

I'm very disappointed, still no response after weeks. But about the other tool, can you guys perhaps check if it installs an entry in the rightclick context menu? Perhaps it does work exactly the same?

Did you use the contact form, I suppose?
    https://www.virustotal.com/gui/contact-us/support

Ten years ago, I used their contact@ e-mail address.
You could try that, and refer to your earlier support request.

I cannot test it, it is Windows only.
Perhaps you can test it yourself?

    is it even worth it?
According to VT for users with free API key:
Request rate 1 lookups / min
Daily quota 1 lookups / day
Monthly quota 31 lookups / month
Removing the daily qouta and limiting it to 31/month would make more sense to me.

Nope, it renders it useless. I actually would not mind paying for VT scans in SystemInformer, it is like 30 AVs in 1. I guess that only option is CyberLock (Voodooshield).

THen you are not using a normal free API key or using another method. This is an e-mail notice I got from VT
    Hello,

This is a notification to let you know that you have exceeded the following VirusTotal service component allowances -

    • Daily VT API calls
    • Affected account: xxxxxxxxx
    • Quota limit: 1
    • Quota consumed: 1
    • Notification date: 2025-01-11 at 15:11h (UTC)

All further usage of the aforementioned component will be capped until the next metering period. At the technical level, your web/API requests will be getting "429 Quota Exceeded" status code responses. As a consequence, your scripts and workflows may start to fail.

If you want to upgrade your access level or discover all that VirusTotal can do for your organization , Please do not hesitate to contact us via https://www.virustotal.com/gui/contact-us .

A last note on metering periods. Daily quotas are scoped to the current calendar day. Monthly quotas are scoped to the current calendar month. Quotas get reset at 00:00 UTC of the next calendar day/month depending on whether it is a daily or monthly allowance.

If you are not interested in receiving more quota consumption notifications you can clear the "Quota notifications" checkbox in your email preferences center (sign in required) or unsubscribe via email.

    Kind regards,
    The VirusTotal team.

Do you know their direct emailaddress? And I did test it, it didn't seem to add any contextmenu entry, but perhaps this is because VirusTotal Uploader 2.2 is still installed, because I just saw that Libraman did get this entry.

OK, so from what I understand it's not like the old tool, is this some kind of joke?

I don't see how anyone would be able to exploit such simple tools.

    Does it still work?

Thanks for testing, so you're saying you don't have any problems at all, even if you upload let's say 10 apps per day?

People managed to get access to abandoned accounts and update projects with a malicious code.

    I think I didn't save my 2015 VirusTotal e-mail correspondence.
More recently, I used the contact form, and follow-up email was via contact@virustotal.com.
