i use D-Opus, and very less xyplorer. explorer never met my needs, personally since xp i'm off. but i cant change on on tablet for work - anyhow the pen is not that "wow" as expected, but the mouse pad sucks at all, so i use the pen most times. on work we have office 2021 pro plus, at home i can use office 2021&2024 with permission. 365 is dull. for my needs i have a licensed softmaker office since ages.
for me, to repeat - win11 starts faster then win 10 on an equal machine and equal software. end of '23 this one (media machine in living room) gets an ssd and will have a lot more performance, and some more memory for virtual machines (mint, debian, zorin, to gain experience)

the win11 calc is similar to calc on win10. but i currently use an older build win win10, maybe that one from win7 or win8, its much faster. anyhow my "techcalc+" on my android phone is superior and much more used.

windows all time offered basic stuff, not more. so for explorer, video player, maybe browser, and a lot more stuff. windows is not getting better, but the pre-installed programs - maybe. but those never get that level of sophisticated solutions.

My Windows 10 is pretty much stellar with many such tweaks already made.

However i yet to pull the draw string as tight on my Windows 11 so really appreciate the link. It will definitely help that one.

24H2 allows you to use DoT. :ninja:
    Code:
    netsh dns set global doh=no
    netsh dns add global dot=yes

    netsh dns add encryption server=1.1.1.2 dothost=security.cloudflare-dns.com:853 autoupgrade=yes udpfallback=no
    netsh dns add encryption server=1.0.0.2 dothost=security.cloudflare-dns.com:853 autoupgrade=yes udpfallback=no

I don't recommend 24H2 for unsupported hardware. Lost my entire day. It installed and rebooted. Disk error. Not a CPU issue. I thought well, that why I have backups. Went to restore a disk image. After about an hour and a half, power goes out. Lost my UPS in a previous power failure. Had to restart a half hour later when it came back. 3 hours for a full restore. Then I had to call my ISP to fix the internet that didn't come back after the power did. One of those days I shouldn't have got out of bed. I guess I'll just have to buy a new PC next year when 23H2 is done. :(

    xxJackxx,

3 hours. That's a long time. What size is your backup image. I'm interested.

Windows is no longer able to run HDD, MS intentionally slowed it down. I used to play Metro games on my laptop on 10, 2 years later, the laptop could hardly boot let alone run games, the same hardware, low temps, 11 needs SSD.

317 GB. The system drives are SSD but the backup drive is an external USB.

I have an Asus laptop, circa 2012, and Win10 was intolerable with the HDD, but it's quite happy and usable after upgrading to SSD. I'm sure there's some graph somewhere that shows the age of hardware versus when an OS needs an SSD, but I'm guessing Win11 would be "always". :D

    Thanks. That makes sense.

The 'Rufus' version worked out very well for me. I dusted off my old (2011) ThinkPad X220. It has a i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz and 16.0 GB of RAM. Stuck a Samsung SSD and did a clean Windows 11 24H2 install. Shortly after install, ThinkPad picked up some newer updates and installed them without any issues.

Now, this old laptop is no 'speed demon', when compared to my new i9 with 128 GB of RAM, however, it can hold its own. Thanks to 'Rufus', you can check certain boxes to avoid Hardware restrictions and still be able to use a local account.

I wouldn't try it, at least without making an immediate backup first. I've tried this on 3 unsupported PCs and it hosed all of them. Assuming we mean 24H2 again, I had good luck with 22H2 and 23H2. Be prepared to waste 2 hours and restore a backup.
