Hasleo Backup Suite

@TheRollbackFrog - I know all your systems are recents from Windows 10 up/11 of course but i have a question. About Hasleo Backup Suite's Emergency Disk FIRST building of it. Is it safe to assume with a Windows 8.1 (which they do support 7 and 8, if you check the box for the building of the ISO, using NOT the OPE but instead choosing Microsoft.Com for the added components that it will (Microsoft.Com), download the components for the correct system when issuing the request for the ISO components. In other words HBS determines the proper system for the build, or like the WinPE Downloader does Microsoft.com download all 3 or determines the exact system making the request. Thank You

 

For the past 2 months I've continued testing (both backup and restore- both done Hot and Cold) on a Test System (~60GB backup size), and all completed flawlessly. Although I struggled to find something to complain about, for that I found no Joy.

Testing was done as a comparison against Macrium WorkStation and Veritas System Recovery. With Hasleo and Veritas there were no Backup or Restore issues, while with Macrium there was a single Restore fail (thankfully I had the other 2 installed for recover from this failure!). Although completion times for both B and R were similar for all 3 products, Hasleo consistently was more efficient by ~5-8% always.

With these results Hasleo is now my primary and Veritas is the secondary. For Macrium I could find no justifiable place.

Just when i had all but settled on Aomei Backupper ALL my systems now have a solid top choice HBS here as primary bar none.

Impressive features AND results!

 

A newbie has a question about HBS: would it be possible to open a Veracrypt-container in a mounted HBS image? I couldn't do it even with admin rights, I get the error message: Medium is write-protected. Macrium already shows, that it is technically possible in its free version (if the checkboxes for "Access to restricted folders" and "Make writable" are checked when mounting an image). Does anyone have a tip as to whether it will work in HBS too? Greetings Sabine from Germany

I would ask their forum your question, their admin responses are usually very timely and helpful with questions. I personally am unable to help you with your question.

Hello @Glitzersternchen. I don't think it's possible. I tried creating a very basic 1 GB container on my system drive, then used HBS to image that drive. After that, I then mounted the resulting image inside HBS. Then using Verycrypt 1.26.7, I tried mounting the container in the mounted image. Verycrypt saw the image just fine, but when I try to access the mounted containers mount point all I get is an access denied message.

The same is true for Image for Windows as well. The container file is inaccessible.

edit - If you mount the container within veracrypt's mount options as read-only it seems to work for both.

@EASTER - sorry for being late with this (I'm off the coast of Croatia, at the moment). I cannot speak from experience but if you download the appropriate WinPE needs automatically, it will download the version closest to your operating environment.

Please understand, there is no "correct" System... the WinPE hosting the Recovery Media does not have to be the same as the LIVE Windows OS you're imaging. It does need to be operational on your particular hardware configuration. Many different WinPEs operate just fine on lots of different hardware... in fact, it's best to use the highest version that works on your System due to extensive driver support in the newer versions for different hardware configurations. I usually recommend that users with older hardware running LIVE Windows 7 should use a Win10 or 11-based WinPE for their hardware... as long as it works. The WinPE only needs to run on the intended hardware and host the Hasleo Recovery software... it doesn't care what image you are imaging/restoring, it's an imager after all . It just needs to run on your hardware with the Hasleo recovery software.

 

Speaking of WinPE based boot disks, I envision Hasleo Backup Suite on Strelec's disk someday

The reason that i asked about it in particular, was one of my newest created UFD's with a Fresh (v.4.9) HASLEO ED was blue screening every single time no matter what. But i since discovered it was RUFUS that caused the issue when using (Recommended) setting. Adding to the confusion is that there are different versions which i keep. Never had any issue before with it, so after wiping the UFD and starting over from scratch i created the UFD again but selected an alternative setting-Voila!! Working like a charm, every time now.

 

It just came to me that during my product testing I never checked out the Image Guardian functionality of Macrium. As I didn't find any good videos testing it, for any interested I'll be publishing one this weekend on YouTube (cruelsister1 channel),

As to Hasleo Backup Suite, ongoing testing still in progress and making the rounds one by one. This latest one of mine is rather unremarkable. Which was instead of repeating a Restore with a chain of 4 Incrementals trailing, selected HBS's Delete Task AND accompanying file, which also clears out those Increms. There actually was no room on my 2TB WesternDigital External to chance a MERGE and run out of room, so a new 1st Image Bckup Disk FULL will seat within it much better.

Having these 1TB drives with 3/4 data usage on an antiquated Windows 8.1 HDD (Spindle) doesn't deter HASLEO. Yes it sacrifices speed compared to SSD's, but it doesn't take as long as one might expect with them. And THIS TEST is with HIGH COMPRESSION. Currently Imaging 1TB Seagate with 600GB of data.

 

It's not an encryption virus, but just open explorer and try to delete the image file.

 

Who said anything about encryption or a (anti?) virus? Image Guardian is just a driver that prevents deletion or manipulation of Reflect images. It's like Terabytes ProtectIt. Currently Hasleo has no such feature. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

BTW, after a bit of badgering, HBS is now part of Anhdv Winpe.

 

Because the encryptor is the hardest case, and I also named the easiest case. Imagine a situation when all your backups are corrupted by an encryptor.

 

I don't worry about my backups being corrupted by an encryptor. I use this
GiliSoft File Lock Pro my backups are very well protected.

Macrium Reflect allows me the option to verify the image automatically once it is completed. While I see the option in Hasleo Backup Suite to manually verify the image once it is completed I do not see the option to do it automatically. It would be nice if this automatic verification option could be added. I don't believe I have overlooked it. Thanks in advance...

 

That option already exists. When you're selecting your partitions to be image, select "Backup options" on the bottom.

 

I'll have to check out Anhdv Boot.
