Google will disable classic extensions in Chrome in the coming months

So you are just using the AdGuard browser extension? Or the full Windows suite?

 

Using the paid Windows application and the Browser Assistant that is meant to go with it. Not the free browser extension that is stand alone.

i could use the paid windows build, but currently there is no need since decades before. adguard mv3 is nice. currently edge only, which is not often in use here, but for my working account. i never investigated into its deeper features because running smooth. nevertheless i had to reset my android premium build on to phones because something got broken (i use the nightly build). different story.
what i can say that "consent-o-matic" has settled on mv3 now and its still working like charm. firefox already can use mv3 extensions - and there are in store - but the "service worker" is still in development, so adguard mv3 is not usable thus not available for firefox.

In the Microsoft Store, the MV2 extensions have not lost the featured badge yet.

I'm curious how much longer suppliers of browserextensions will simultaneoesly offer a MV2 and a MV3 version. A sign in the direction that MV2 will not survive, is the new Malwarebytes Browser Guard MV3. They say: "A similar change in Firefox is coming soon".

It all depends if browsers like Firefox, Vivaldi and Brave will continue to support MV2. Of course most extensions will have no problems functioning with MV3, but it's all about the adblockers, that's what people are worried about. I don't see why Gorhill couldn't keep developing the MV2 version of uBlock and make it available via his own website. I suppose Adblock Plus and Ghostery won't bother to do this.

mv3 for firefox has not that limitations as for chromium based. for malwarebytes - mv3 has the same ability as mv2 for their extension(s), for users it has no impact. mv3 most times concern extensions using the webrequest api, not context menu or other functions, eg clippings, tabs in sidebar and many other different. you will be astonished how many mv3 extensions already exist on amo. (they are not marked as those)

 

I disable Chrome updating and I'm still on version 126. I had a couple of extensions disabled and one was replaced by a different one. But so far UBlock Origin is still working on Chrome and Edge. Has anyone had UBO stop working yet?

 

that wont help you out, google will disable your mv2 extensions from server side. there exist a blacklist which is send to all chromium browsers, also edge, that will disable such extensions - and you cannot block it. Also mozilla has this killswitch to disable malicious extensions.
and very important - there exist no security software to fill the vulnerabilities in your outdated browser, and there are a lot of odays on the run.

For me it's simple. I'm on Chrome's extended support right now; when that ends I'm switching to Firefox. uBlock Origin is simply too good to give up. I don't really like the idea of getting used to a new browser all over again but I've don't it before and the world didn't end.

 

i wont carve this into stone. ublock might end up suddenly because uBoL is the next gen "ublock" adblocker. firefox market share is not that much, even lesser its forkes.

currently adguard v5 (MV3) is the superior blocker based on mv3 for chromium based, the team is amazing and full on support. then AdLock may have my focus, the rest - maybe, maybe not, depends on user needs.

adguard is 99% ublock compatible, also for "my rules", whitelist. it has a decent picker, a logger.

nevertheless i also switched for firefox (my main browser) to adguard as i dont see a future to ublock for firefox that way. switching to firefox has advantage i would say, but for users which are more familiar with chrome that step is not that easy.
