This morning, CCleaner started acting really weird on my Windows 11. Maybe, it's me, but... I could not run it. Any time I'd push "Run Cleaner" a marketing pop-up window for CCleaner would show up "Upgrade to Pro." And I could not figure out how to close that marketing pop-up message. Without closing it, CCleaner was in grey color.
Ongoing thread (so you are not the only one) https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/67130-hello-and-goodbye/#comments
See also this comment in a similar issue: I don't have the issue in my portable install (stripped down by removing the `x64` and `x86` folders to reduce the bloat ) .
I presume everyone can see this notice at the top of each CCleaner forum page. Important Announcement Regarding CCleaner's Custom Clean Feature https://community.ccleaner.com
I've read the announcement, but I'm not sure what they are trying to tell us... Well, let's wait and see.
Note that the banner posted today at https://community.ccleaner.com/forum/4-ccleaner/ disappears once the notification message about Custom Clean is read. I had to close my Firefox browser (which automatically clears my cookies on exit) to get the banner to re-appear again. Moderator hazelnut has speculated in Leon's 27-May-2024 topic CCleaner does not respect my choice in the CCleaner forum that Avast / Piriform is planning to remove the Custom Clean feature from CCleaner Free to try and force users to upgrade to CCleaner Professional. ----------- Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.4412 * Firefox v126.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.24040.4 -1.1.24040.1 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.1.4.112-1.0.1244 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.23.11010
No banners or other issues here, using PA version. But decided to buy a Pro (Plus) license anyway, cheap - in my country. Why not? I use it every day and it does what I want nicely. Won't use any features I don't use now, but just to support them. Used for as long as I can remember, was Pro before at one stage but went back to Free.
@paulderdash I believe the issue was that when users downloaded the new build some of them were given a different build which wouldn't let them use Custom Clean unless they bought a Pro version. No mention of this was made in the information page about the new build. It was the underhand way things were done, and the lack of info on the forum from admins about it that upset users. After numerous posts the banner was taken down. I guess it's a wait and see now what happens next.
Yes, it appears the banner notification announcing upcoming changes to CCleaner Free that some of us saw yesterday in the CCleaner forum has been taken down. From what I can gather from Leon's 27-May-2024 CCleaner does not respect my choice in the CCleaner forum, some CCleaner Free users updating to v6.24 (rel. 23-May-2024) received an "experimental" version of CCleaner v6.24 that will not run Custom Clean and will show a pop-up asking them to upgrade to CCleaner Professional when they try to use this feature. Not every CCleaner Free v6.24 user has this problem because the "experimental" build is being pushed out randomly to a small number of Cleaner Free users for evaluation. I'm guessing the early feedback has been so negative that Avast / Piriform decided to remove (postpone?) the official announcement. FYI, I'm still on CCleaner Free Portable v6.23 and have no intention of updating to a newer version until I have a clearer idea exactly what Avast / Piriform is planning for CCleaner Free. Maybe it's time for me to finally move on to BleachBit. ----------- Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.4412 * Firefox v126.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.24040.4 -1.1.24040.1 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.1.4.112-1.0.1244 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * CCleaner Free Portable v6.23.11010
Looks like CCleaner may be giving the 'pay for custom clean' option another try to selected users. https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/67171-ccleaner-62411060-will-not-do-a-custom-clean/
More or less confirmed now as to what is happening with CCleaner Free. https://community.ccleaner.com/topi...60-will-not-do-a-custom-clean/#comment-348886
