They share the same code base so you won't notice any difference when you do upgrade to 23h2.

    NEW 11/14/23
IMPORTANT After February 27, 2024, there will no longer be optional, non-security preview releases for Windows 11, version 22H2. Only cumulative monthly security updates will continue for the supported editions of Windows 11, version 22H2.

I've only got 1 PC that says 23H2 and that is the one on the Release Preview channel. All of them on standard updates are still 22H2.

Good to know, thanks. I have 23H2 at work and 22H2 at home.

22H2 also get, and got, all the same as 23H2 is labeled for. the "enabler" patch only lift the number, not mor, not less. So resisting on 22H2 makes no difference, in fact 22H2 ... see #78784
and tis includes NET, powershell, and many more which is not labeled as "system".

Are you sure you downloaded 22H2? Microsoft's Media Creation Tool still downloads 22H2.

Today WU tried to reinstall the Nov. CU I had already installed and showed as succeeded. Ran chkdsk and sfc /scannow; the latter reported that errors were found and fixed. After a restart the duplicate update was no longer offered. W10 Home 22H2.

Thank you for that info. I was postponing 23H2 enablement only to see if there are any problems, but I like an idea to receive only cumulative security updates, so I might stick with 22H2 for longer period of time.

I upgraded my main computer to Win11 23H2 using the downloaded ISO. In Windows.
After cleaning up I had more Free Space in the partition than before the upgrade. 2 GB more.

The Windows partition had been resized 120 MB smaller and the Recovery partition had been resized 120 MB larger. This is better than what we used to see when a second Recovery partition was created.

My second computer was also upgraded and 5 GB of extra Free Space was noted. The Recovery partition was also resized, as above.

Out of interest, I restored a backup image taken a few days ago and upgraded to Win11 23H2 using Windows Update. The process was faster than using the ISO but there was no increase in Free Space in the OS partition and the Recovery partition wasn't upgraded. The old recovery wim was still present.

An image taken a few hours ago was then restored so I'm again using Win11 upgraded from the ISO, with the new Recovery partition.

Brian, if I have 2 or 3 Windows partitions per laptop (created using BootIt UEFI), would you still recommend the ISO method, or would the Windows Update method be easier/safer?

Paul, you could use either method. The non booting Windows OS are hidden from the booted OS so safety isn't an issue. The other OS "don't exist" as far as the booted OS is concerned.

I prefer upgrading from an ISO as it results in more free space in the OS partition after the upgrade. I like a lean, mean OS partition as it results in smaller backup images. Smaller images restore faster.

Thanks Brian, on one machine each Win 10 instance has it's own recovery partition, unlike the other machine, which has one.
Just thought maybe there could be an issue if a recovery partition was resized ...

I have never installed these previews before and I have always wondered the answer to this question:

If you install the preview version do you still have to install or update when they are officially released? Other than being a voluntary Beta Tester or so it seems, are there any advantages for doing so? If you have to do it twice I would equate that to Double the Trouble and Double the Time, am I right?:thumbd:

Update previews? It's just the same update that will get pushed out in the near future. The only advantage would be getting it sooner. There is no twice, these aren't beta. It is EXTREMELY rare that anything would change between the preview and the regular release. I can't say it has never happened, but they have put out bad regular releases so there is that. I install all of the the previews and can't say I can remember any negative consequences. Then again I do it because I work in IT and want to make sure they are ok before the rest of the company gets them. If you feel brave go ahead and install, it won't be any more work than waiting until later. If not, you'll eventually get it anyway.

In my experience, the release preview builds on my Windows 10 drive have been uneventful. They've d/l and installed just like the regular updates. Not a guarantee that there won't be any problems in the future but to date, there have been no issues w/release previews. :)

I always install the Preview Updates and always get the regular updates released monthly. The Preview updates are not security patches, while the regular monthly updates include what's in the Preview + security enhancements.

That's why they are optional. These aren't security updates, but stability updates. Fixing memory leaks in processes, timezones and stuff like that. I always install them and didn't have a single issue so far. But Macrium is covering my back.
This time I had a minor problem after the update. For some reason, the update removed the URL association and the steam games icons went blank. Restoring the URL association to Internet Browser fixed the issue.

OK, the latest cumulative KB 5033372 installed fine and everything but I have two questions:

    1. Does anyone notice the blue Windows logo on the loading screen after a start/restart is now quite a bit larger than before?
    2. Is it normal to still be on 22H2 if you're running Windows 10 mainstream channel (not Insiders)? On Windows 11 beta, it's 23H2 if it matters.

    Thanks, just curious.

Yes, it is. Can't answer the first one, not on 10 on any machines I have access to.
