UCheck - Update your software in 2 clicks

Because if we don't, there's 2 problems:
- You will see uninstallers / launchers / ... of those programs with a different version number (sometimes). They will be marked as outdated
- Secund, those uninteresting programs will be sent as feedback to retrieve version info of their attaching program, with potential wrong version info.

 

Hi, apparently Google made this update for Windows 10+ only. What OS version are you on ?

 

I see no problem with NirSoft at all, I think we can safely go to production the way it is now.

A couple of filtering issue.
7zip (and others) from PortableApps.com. When filtering out any "sub" exe, trying to keep 7z.exe, the whole 7-zip64 folder disappeares. It might be solved by looking at 7zipPortable.exe ( #1060 )



Beyond Compare Portable from the official website. When filtering out Bcomp.exe, trying to keep Bcompare.exe. the whole app disappeares.

 

Well, have you tried with version 5.0.5 ?

 

Did you filter using the text search ? I'm trying to understand how to repro

Right, currently (this behavior will probably change) exclusions are program based, so if they have the same program name, after a scan, they should all be excluded.

I'm testing the latest UCheck Free Portable BETA v5.0.5.0 offered 17-Nov-2023 in post # 1085 which I run from a removable USB stick with Administrator rights.

If I rename the 32-bit RevoUn.exe (E:\Portable\Revo Uninstaller 2_4_5\x86\RevoUn.exe) to RevoUn_Portable.exe as you suggested then UCheck detects that executable ...



.... but if I change the name of the same executable to Revo.exe (not the original RevoUn.exe) as I did for my test in post # 1092 it disappears again.




Is there something specific about the using the string "_Portable" or "_portable" in the file name that prevents it from being filtered out? You said that RevoUn.exe is "filtered out because of its version info saying Revo Uninstaller. UCheck thinks it's the uninstaller of some program" but when I rename the file to RevoUn_Portable.exe the file description and product name are still "Revo Uninstaller".

Further to my post # 1114, I can also verify that renaming 32-bit RevoUn.exe (E:\Portable\Revo Uninstaller 2_4_5\x86\RevoUn.exe) to RevoUn_Portable.exe may prevent UCheck from filtering out that executable in the scan results, but renaming executables can have other unexpected consequences.

For example, that 32-bit (x86) file now renamed RevoUn_Portable.exe is no longer detected as a supported executable by QuickInstaller, which now only detects the 64-bit version of RevoUn.exe (E:\Portable\Revo Uninstaller 2_4_5\x64\RevoUn.exe) with the original file name.



However, QuickInstaller will detect both the 32-bit and 64-bit executables if they both have their original file name RevoUn.exe.

UCheck fails to detect the currently installed version of this software for me. I have it updated to the current version but it still shows up regardless. Running current version of Windows 10 for my OS.

I noticed that even by deleting UCheck Portable some previously chosen (but often unwanted) settings remain selected. Is it possible to know the path where to remove these settings?

C:\ProgramData\UCheck and UCheck log C:\ProgramData\UCheck\Debug
But config.ini is binary, so can't edit it

It also has some config in registry : Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adlice Software\UCheck

Just two comments to help ucheck development:

1.- There are some compatible programs that ucheck continues to consider with a previous version and that a higher version was released several days ago. They are the ones indicated in the image:

2.- When starting the scan automatically when opening the program, the "Analysis/Stop" button still says "Analysis" instead of "Stop".

Well, IMO that is a QuickInstaller bug. We cannot align on what others do unfortunately... I'll take a look at Revo see if we can find artifacts, but for now forcing "portable" in the name is the easiest workaround.

 

Yes, we're working on those stupid programs not updating their Uninstall entry... However if they don't expose their location either no magic will happen here.
