and how does this article for chrome apply to edge? my history is not empty, but the quantifier for values is not clear as it do not count all pages or visits.
"Google Chrome and all other Chromium-based web browsers collect site engagement statistics. It measures how "engaged" a user is with a particular site. The score ranges from 0 to 100, with 100 being "super engaged" and 0 not at all."
but there exist no real explanation how it is calculated. anyhow: 2023 news? no https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/44010/is-it-possible-to-disable-site-engagement-tracking/2 chrome 75 got live in 2008. and its not proven that chrome or edge will leak such information, MB wrote himself its just a local statistic to avoid "lookalikes" as presented here https://fingerprint.com/blog/potential-privacy-implications-lookalike-warnings-chromium/ so the ghacks article is crap, again. btw just throwing a link is poor work, as usual.
Your work is shoddy, because you criticize as usual. Forums are born to share information,as its ancient purpose of "Forum Magnum" there are those who participate and/or those who attend anything that may be of interest to the community. And this is a virtual community (forum) that has a common purpose. Not all users are aware of what you,I or others may know.
I really only wonder. Strange, does everyone really just have to praise and put "Like" to everything?
I am not among those who have this modern habit. This is probably due in part to my age. But in today's reality where it seems to me it is easy to destroy,I believe it is better to be constructive.
And people still want to deny that Edge is spyware? Since when is the cloud needed for doing a simple Ctrl+F search on a website? Not sure what to think of this. So basically all Chromium based browsers are spying on you? Never heard of this feature before. I did the test, but I'm not sure what was supposed to happen, I keep getting an error in Vivaldi.

This version seems to keep running despite "Startup boost" and "Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed" being off. It seemed to work last week. It sits there and wastes 400 MB of RAM. Anyone else having this issue?
Yes. It's very annoying. Discovered this when C-Cleaner started asking if Edge Chromium may be shut down to clean it, in spite of start-up boost & allowing background processes to run on closing both being disabled. It started after one of the recent Edge updates (there's been a few in the last week or so). Also finding since this behaviour started that I often have to manually empty the sandbox for Edge in Sandboxie, in spite of it being set to autodelete & no files to recover.
What version of Windows are you using? It seems to happen on my two Win 11 laptops but not my win 10 machines. They're set up exactly the same in terms of settings & apps. May have been the CU I installed on my Win 11 machines that has caused this change in behaviour. Edge updates & the CU happened around the same time.
Windows 11 Pro x64, 22H2 (build 22621.2506) Edge 118.0.2088.76 (Settings: Microsoft Edge Sync = all disabled).
The plot thickens! I'm on the same build of Windows 11 Pro x64 & same version of Edge. Definitely seems to be only my Win 11 machines affected. I don't sync any settings either, though I do use a MS account rather than a local one.
Can I just get one thing clear, are you talking about Win 11 Edge showing in the Process tab even when you have the setting for it off? (start up boost etc) Or are you talking about Edge Webview2 under the Win 11 task manager details tab ? In Win 11 I have start up boost and continue running etc turned off. I show no Edge in Process but do see Edge webview2 under details tab of task manager. I don't sign in to Microsoft. I don't sync.
This is a screen snip of my task manager after Edge has been closed. It will remain like this until I either manually end the process or let C-Cleaner do it when I shut down for the night (several hours later sometimes, so it won't just linger temporarily). I have Edge set to clear everything on closing: cache, history, cookie, etc etc, but this is even with clearing all that manually as well before closing. Nothing to to with Webview2. This behaviour is only a recent thing & only affecting my Win 11 machines, not Win 10. The settings & extensions on all machines (10 & 11) are identical. No syncing, efficiency mode disabled, continuation of background process on closing disabled, start up boost disabled. I'm signed into to both Win 10 & Win 11 machines with MS accounts, not local.
This is Windows 11 and for clarification here is Task Manager. This is shortly after bootup. I have not opened Edge yet.
@xxJackxx Out of interest (I am presuming that you are able to run gpedit on your machine) what is this set to? Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Microsoft Edge (Click on Edge) On the right panel now what is this set as.. Allow Microsoft Edge to pre-launch at Windows startup, when the system is idle, and each time Microsoft Edge is closed policy.
If it makes you feel bad, then delete it very quickly, as usual, but this is very bad advice. However, it would be necessary to find out the real reason for this matter. I can tell you that I personally use more than one computer and there is no such problem andd also have not been. However, I would recommend finding the cause and eliminating it. And this reason can't be general if it doesn't happen to all users. Unfortunately, I can't give you any more suggestions or advice because I haven't encountered such a problem.
I haven't encountered the problem either on Win 11. I was just trying to offer ideas to those users who DO have the problem.
