I am considering to replace the installer on the website with a online installer of some sort, this way I don't need to update the download page each time, for github and winget everything would remain as is

    What do you think?

In the past users expressed the sentiment that this is to complicated, apparently clicking on assets and then picking by file name is not simple enough.

As I wrote in the first post on github nothing would change, so how about putting an online installer on the download page and below it the link to github/../latest for those that want offline installers.

could then look something like this: https://sandboxie-plus.com/downloads-test/

I find your suggestion a good compromise. Maybe do some bold for the Offline (or Online) to make the difference even more clear. But like I said I like the idea.

I'm trying to understand what you're talking about, but it's much more complicated than higher math.
And so I can't even guess what your point could mean.

And, it is true, one of them is called the downloader and the other is called the installer, but how it all affects the updating of the website, see, it is something where even higher mathematics does not help to find any connection. People's brains today are probably very different than those of my time... I'm afraid the main reason is hidden there.
So, I can't figure out how the installer building method or look is involved with website updates.

The downloads page now = standalone
    https://sandboxie-plus.com/downloads/
I imagine the download page has to be re-built now-each update with new standalone installers.
Online installer = I imagine there would be link to the available, at the time, online installer.
GitHub and WinGet would remain as is.

Yea the point is that the online installer has to be made once and done, each time someone wants to install from the website, the installer downloads in the background the latest offline installer from github and runs it.
It would use the same mechanism as the normal updater.

So no more need to update the website each time a new build is uploaded to github.

Can't you have a "latest" landing page where the latest version always lives with the same filename? Ignorance rules I'm afraid.

there is no doubt from my side for an online installer with a precise explanation. anyhow any online downloader has to battle security software. if too much complaints reach your end, its a fail.

As there are so many voices against an online installer I would be interested to hear: What are the arguments against it? Some security issues perhaps?

Personally I find online installers quite useful. And if it makes work easier for David, I think there should be plausible reasons to refuse it.
