Firefox belongs to the few apps that are compatible with UCheck, but UCheck did not tell me that I should update my FF v117.0.1 to v118.0. The Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime bug I reported above has not been fixed yet.
Hi Tigzy: I'm having the same problem as mrpink getting UCheck v4.10.2 to scan my portable apps - see my topic in the UCheck forum at UCheck v4.10.2 - Problem Scanning Portable Apps. SUMo v5.17.10 has no problem scanning my ~25 portable apps that are located on a removable USB thumb drive and SUMo has recommended updates for 4 of these portable apps in the past week or so, including an update from UCheck Free Portable v4.10.1 to v4.10.2. Most of my portable apps are also on your list of supported "installed" applications (e.g., CCleaner, HWiNFO, Revo Uninstaller, TreeSize Free, etc.) so I'm assuming that my portable versions of these applications are now supported by UCheck as well. ---------------- Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3448 * Firefox v118.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23080.2006-1.1.23080.2005 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.3.282-1.0.2151 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * SUMo Free Portable v5.17.10.542 * UCheck Free Portable v4.10.2
Is this supposed to work on the D:\ drive as well? So far nothing is found there and I have about 8 or 10 portable programs there. Bill
UCheck has a different approach, than SUMo. SUMo scans the folders and shows all applications (also portable application) that are found. Here many applications (like installers, updaters, helper-apps) must be filtered out and in the SUMo Bug Tracker there are many entries like "Filter out the update.exe from the application Application.exe). This is the reason, why SUMo finds more apps, than UCheck. SUMo also gets the information about available updates from users (when a certain amount of users has a new version, SUMo assumes, that this new version is public). Problem here is, that I get often updates shown, but the version offered is a beta version. Some of the shown updates are apps, that are bundled with other apps (so I also can not update them manually). UCheck also scans the folders, but it only displays the apps, that are supported by UCheck. From my portable applications this is currently AdwCleaner, but more will come. Here the information about new updates should be more reliable, but the number of supported apps is still very low. I as a Power-User of SUMo give UCheck a try to see, how it develops. The more feedback we give here, the better UCheck will be. Ok, let's make it clear about portable software, it's not a priority short term. Priority is community feedback for installed software. I'm putting the link to my comment here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...ftware-in-2-clicks.404593/page-5#post-3163660
I fully understand, that you will focus on installed applications first and later on you will focus on the portable applications. Here my hope is, that portable versions of supported apps are also prioritized. And I hope the "Community Feedback System" (where you collect all installed applications) will be published soon, so we get more supported apps in UCheck. It is a great tool so far and I see the potential....
I tested UCheck v4.10.2 with an outdated version of AdwCleaner and can confirm that AdwCleaner is currently the only portable app currently detected by UCheck - see my 27-Sep-2023 test results in the UCheck forum at UCheck v4.10.2 - Problem Scanning Portable Apps. I've also attached a list there of the ~30 portable apps that SUMo currently detects on my removable USB thumb drive. Kudos to dking02 for posting in that thread and suggesting that I test with AdwCleaner. I'm hoping the list of portable apps detected by UCheck will be expanded before SUMo reaches end-of-life on 31-Oct-2023. --------------- Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3448 * Firefox v118.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23080.2006-1.1.23080.2005 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.3.282-1.0.2151 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * SUMo Free Potable v5.17.10.542 * UCheck Free Portable v4.10.2
Hi Tigzy, A few notes on the latest version and results. Why you focus on the services (e.g. Adobe Genuine Services, Epic Online Services etc.) while Epic Game Launcher doesn't have a new version and the latest update of Adobe Creative Cloud (the desktop app) wasn't detected at all? Also, UCheck detected a new Photoshop version but the other installed products like Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects wasn't detected at all. I have a reason to stay on version 2022, so I will ignore the PS detection, but please add the other Adobe products as well. MS Edge WebView usually comes with MS Edge (and a few other programs are using it too) but I didn't find a new version available. Intel Chipset update was properly detected indeed (good job on that one): https://www.station-drivers.com/index.php/en/component/remository/Drivers/Intel/Chipset-Device-Software/Serie-10.0.x--and--10.1.1.x/orderby,2/page,8/lang,en-gb/?Itemid=0 Apple Software Update is probably an FP as well. https://i.ibb.co/yP9cqS8/Image-537.png https://i.ibb.co/FYC4X4Y/Image-538.png Let me know if you want an export of my installed software via PM. Edit: Samsung Magician 8 (from today was missed by UCheck) and detected by SUMo. All the best!
@B-boy/StyLe/ Just to clarify, Community feedback is intended to be fully automated. This means several things: - Only enough data from other users will provide accurate data about what version is the latest. For example if more people are using a BETA version, then it's going to be labeled as latest. - We can filter out some irrelevant software, but the rule is that ALL software are going to the database by default. We dont' focus on specific ones rather than others. - Software that are "missed" probably require more data from other users. This will defenitely come when it's released to production.
This is the same approach, that SUMo follows. This approach has some advantages like: More supported applications Faster information about updates But it also has some disadvantages: Some updates, that SUMo offered, were Beta versions, but I wanted to use only the release versions. There are several applications, that publish several beta versions before they release the next release version, so I was often reporting beta versions to SUMo. Examples: PSPad, NVDA, Screenpresso Some updates for stand-alone applications (applications, that are available, like GPU-Z) are reported, although they are bundled to a different product (like Furmark). Here I can not update the bundled app (Furmark) separate, I have to update the whole package (Furmark). Here some examples (but there are many many more): Update for 7Zip is reported, but this came with AdvancedRenamer Update for GPU-Z is reported, but this came with Furmark Update for TreeSize Free is reported, but this came with HeavyLoad . Some updates for helpers (applications, that come with an application, but are not separately available) were reported, although I can not update them separate, like OneCommander has the helpers OneCommanderConnector and OneCommanderUpdater FreeCommander has the helpers FcContextMenu64, FCSFXStub and FCWinERedirect CCleaner has the helpers CCleanerBugReport (32-Bit) and CCleanerBugReport (64-Bit) For all these cases I could name many more examples. There were many manual adjustments needed for SUMo to filter out some apps and to declare beta versions. And for portable applications, SUMo does not filter out the bundled apps (so 7Zip in AdvancedRenamer and GPU-Z in Furmark will always be separate applications. My job is to check the UX (User Experience) and Accessibility of applications. US is very important for having satisfied users, that can fulfil the work task in an efficient way. Therefore I hoped, that UCheck will only report updates if: the updates are verified (no beta versions) and the updates are for the main application (no updates for bundled apps) Otherwise I get too many false positives (currently SUMo offers me 14 updates, 2 are beta and 4 are bundled applications). I know that this approach is much more work for the UCheck team, but otherwise there will be too many false positives.
Hi OLLI_S: I have a very different experience with SUMo than you do. People who don't use SUMo on a regular basis might not be aware that SUMo has a setting that allows users to ignore beta releases, and in most cases this works well on my system. I have Allow Beta Versions disabled and SUMo will occasionally recommend a new beta release for my "stable" HWiNFO Portable app, but if I report the problem to KCSoftwares or just wait a day or two that issue is quickly resolved. I don't use benchmarking software like AdvancedRenamer, Furmark and HeavyLoad that bundle .exe files for "standalone" utilities like 7-Zip, GPU-Z, TreeSize Free etc. so ignoring updates for bundled executables isn't a concern for me, and SUMo has no difficulty correctly identifying when stable updates are released for my 7-Zip, GPU-Z and TreeSize Free Portable apps. I'm not sure what you are asking for is even possible. If your out-of-date benchmarking software is bundled with an out-of-date .exe file for a utility like 7-Zip, GPU-Z or TreeSize Free then I don't see how any software updater would be able to ignore that bundled .exe file just because it was found inside the installation folder of your benchmarking software (e.g., C:\Programs Files\AdvancedRenamer\...\7z.exe) instead of being found inside the "expected" default location of the "standalone" program (e.g., C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe). If SUMo was programmed to ignore an out-of-date TreeSizeFree.exe executable just because it was not located in the "expected" default installation folder then SUMo would never be able to find updates for my TreeSize Free portable app that can be run from any location (including a removable USB thumb drive) or for an "installed" TreeSize Free program that someone installed in a custom location. --------------- Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3448 * Firefox v118.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23080.2006-1.1.23080.2005 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.3.282-1.0.2158 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * SUMo Free Potable v5.17.10.542 * UCheck Free Portable v4.10.2
Wow, I got an update alert from UCheck for Firefox 118.0.1, which was released earlier today. Well done, UCheck.
I would estimate myself as an SUMo Expert. I have exchanged over 500 mails with Kyle (not counting the "report beta" mails) and I also added many bug tracker entries to SUMo. So yes, I know this setting and I don't have it activated. But SUMo offers me quiet often beta versions for some apps like: NVDA (screenb reader) PSPad (programming editor) Screenpresso (screenshot tool) Pencil (mockup tool) Right now SUMo tells me that Pencil 3.1.2 is available, but on the website Website version 3.1.1 is available. Version 3.1.2 is a "nightly" build (a beta version). So let's have a look at the SUMo stats of Pencil: https://www.kcsoftwares.com/sumo/view.php?uid=145845008&ProductName=Pencil (64 bits)&Company=Evolus&prot=2&redirect&pro You see, that only 2 users are using Pencil (so it is me and an other user). The other user is using the "nightly" build (version 3.1.2), so 50% of all Pencil users have version 3.1.2. And therefore SUMo assumes, that this version is the current version and reports it. Don't get me wrong: I love SUMo and the approach of SUMo is working great! But you have to live with the fact, that some reported versions are beta versions and some reported versions are applications bundled with other applications. Just a side note: AdvancedRenamer is a file-renaming tool. When I search for 7*.exe then I see, that also popular apps, like NVIDIA GeForce Experience or GOG Galaxy (gaming client) have 7Zip included. It is possible, but it requires, that the update manager is only showing apps, that are detected as "stand alone" apps. For installed apps, this is easy (get the list of installed apps). For portable versions you have to detect, if this app is "solo" or bundled with other apps and show only the solo apps. I know that this means a lot of work and a large set of rules. One rule would be to ignore 7Zip, when it is in the folder or any subfolder below of AdvancedRenamer. This requires many rules, but the reported updates are more precise. It also means, that the number of supported apps is smaller at the beginning. And that new apps must be added one by one to the database. I am writing this all, because I want to make UCheck better and better. Because I also need a tool, that can replace SUMo. OLLI
Yes, if you wait long enough it should be picked up pretty quickly : https://twitter.com/UCheckBot/status/1707403653475176642
That will not be possible with UCheck, for a single reason. We cannot handle hundreds of thousands of different software manually. Community feedback feature will have to remain fully automated. However, when a software becomes popular enough, we will move it from community to supported by adding its own watcher script. But that will be done by priority order, so that we convert FIRST the software that benefit the most to the users
