Yes, in fact, I"m prob. going to have to start imaging this beta system as obviously: stuff happens. Darn it, and even though I'm not a fan, 11 has been very reliable in the two+ years I've been running it.

The next time I install that drive, maybe a magical and mysterious fix will have occurred while the drive was in its jewel case. One can dream.

I run Insider channels on Virtual Machines. Snapshots. Lots of snapshots. 2 mouse clicks for a rollback.

Both the CU & the .NET updates went quickly & smoothly on our 7 Win 10 PCs & 1 Win 11, however on our other Win 11 machine (the newest - a Gigabyte Aero XE5 with a 12th gen CPU) it took 1.5hrs for the CU to install - it stayed stuck at installing 70% for most of that time. Finally got a prompt to restart, then it stayed stuck on the reboot screen saying I was 0% installed for another approx 30mins. Finally reached 100% then able to login. Explorer & desktop very slow to load after login - stayed on black screen for a few mins. Said the CU updated successfully in the history. Then installed the .NET from optionsal updates. Rebooted - faster this time. Left it for a while then came back & open Edge - just a white screen loaded... repeatedly. Left Edge open for 15mins - still white. Closed via taskmanager. Ran a SFC - no integrity violations. Rebooted & Edge opened fine. Weird....

I have no problem with my Defender updates on Win 11 kaljukass. What have you tried so far to fix it?

I'm still so full of impressions from the last KB5028166 that I've decided to skip the new Preview updates and wait for the regular updates next month. I still need time to recover. :)

What you are referring to has nothing to do with the issue discussed here earlier. Absolutely not, and there's no way you or I can change or fix this error caused by Microsoft with Majogeeks exceptionally wise advice.
Since there is nobody still answered my question, I will answer it myself - yes, with the update that was released yesterday, this problem has been eliminated, but since this release is not yet final, I don't know what else may appear there.
There has been too little time to discover everything.

Hmmm, it seems the updates issue I first posted here is actually a "known" issue since a few days. I found it in the Microsoft forums:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-11/1b5ce5f8-a1fe-4109-af3d-dd1202c98040
Although it's differently reported there, I think it's close enough to be the same thing. OK, well I'm still debating whether to reset this or what because I also foolishly "paused updates" and now can't unpause anything. You can run a command line to get Windows updates scan going in Settings but if it's paused for a week, it won't do anything. Guess I'll have to wait that week then, that should be enough time to wait for a repair to this annoying issue.

What kind of imaging software do ppl use around here? I tried Macrium a few times but it's a little complex for my purposes. Anyone like Aomei Backupper--that's what I use for my USB image on Windows 10. Maybe I'll give it a try but after this mess gets sorted out. :cautious:

So you don't see this then?
    https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/pause_windows_11_updates.html#
    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/pause-and-resume-updates-for-windows-11.447/

As for imaging I use Macrium but in its most basic form. All I want is to be able to turn my machine back to when it was working. So I don't do incrementals, differentials or anything like that. I just tick to image all drives (apart from the one I am copying to of course) so they are full images.
Every few weeks I delete a couple of old images manually which you can do through the Macrium GUI.

"Microsoft Released a Windows 11 Update That's Causing PCs to BSOD...

The problem seems to be limited to PCs with an MSI motherboard running the latest BIOS...

...the culprit is update KB5029351, which was released on Aug. 22 and mainly focuses on improvements to the search functionality in Windows 11...

Currently there is no fix available that allows you to keep the update installed, but Windows 11 will recover by rolling back the patch...

Anyone who has yet to install the KB5029351 update need not worry as Microsoft has pulled it for the time being..."

Yes, I don't have the 11 drive installed right now so by way of explanation, the second, slightly faded iterations of "you're up to date" and "updates paused...." is where those respective buttons like "resume" or "check for updates" would be.

It's getting a little more widely reported online now and at least Microsoft knows about it. I'll give another look at Macrium when this mess is resolved, then. Thanks for the guideline. .

For several years they have been pretty consistent with a big discount during Black Friday season. That's not tooooo far off.

Oooo, right, I forgot Macrium is paid now. OK, I just looked at the "one time payment" option and it looks like the best one for my purposes. Hopefully, like you said, it'll go on sale for Black Friday but if not....oh well. I think it would be worth it. (80 USD). :)

Macrium's free version is still available and supported till Jan 1, 2024. It will continue to work beyond that date as well, just without further updates.

Agreed, that is a good option for the the rest of the year but my suggestion is to run that until Black Friday and then buy a license. In the past the discount has been 50%.

OK, I'm not too familiar w/Reddit but I see some advice in there about how to undo the Pause Updates thing I did since the "resume" button is also missing. It appears to involve setting the Date and Time to farther ahead than the date the updates will be unpaused and then changing it back once you've undone it. I'm going to try this tomorrow and see what I can salvage. They did say Microsoft was working on this humdinger of a bork. So let's see what happens next.

thats an insider issue, nothing for the stable build
users working with dev or insider have to expect failures and have to deal with it. my charity has limits.

Since when is this thread strictly limited to releases? Is it written by a moderator somewhere? If it is only then I will refrain from posting about it. Otherwise, please feel free to ignore me.

Anyway, I installed the 11 drive and changed the date to 8/31/2023. It worked a treat and I'm back to to the original bork. There's an update for 11 plus an update stack package installing now. Progress!

Edit: after having to manually restart to apply that cumulative update, the issue is resolved. New winver 22631.2262 Insiders beta channel. :thumb:

I wouldn't think it would matter. There is plenty of bork in all channels. Any time someone finds a solution for a problem it is a good post. :thumb:

to make it more clear - if all insider or dev users would post their borked updates here this thread would explode. thats why other forums separate such informations to each build. and i only see a hand full of users using insider or dev. i think its not worth to present each issue, even not when its fixed that fast.
