The Add Boot Menu tool creates "winpe.iso" in the bin folder of Hasleo. Is this winpe.iso and the Emergency Disk exported ISO the same?
@khanyash - I don't use Hasleo's BOOT menu entry, but I do use the WIM from their produced ISO and they are identical in function. I also have their ISO in my ISO area... and it's the exact same size as the one you referenced above. I'd say the answer is yes...
I would like to give HBS a try. I currently have MR (free) installed with a boot menu. Of course, I plan to make an MR image before installing and trying HBS . Some novice questions: 1. Can HBS add its own boot menu (in addition to MR and system)? 2. Assume that I create a "system backup" image on the D: partition. Can HBS restore this image with or without a HBS boot menu (and no rescue media)?
Anyone else having problems with failure when restoring disc clones? As a test i have cloned, many times, from internal disc to external, as a copy only, and restored that copy to the internal. It always ends up with "No boot device accesible" when rebooting. HBS has been informed. Backing up and restoring is ok with this soft but disc cloning is a no go for me.
1. Yes 2. Yes... as long as the OS/resident Hasleo partition is functioning. When Hasleo is asked to do an "automatic" restore of any kind, it doesn't even use its BOOT menu entry (if you had one) to do this... that entry is for you to use if you want to. It sets up a 1-time pre-BOOT to its own internal WinPE ISO and has the System BOOT to that entry and invoke its internal WinPE to do the restore. After the private WinPE restoration it BOOTs back into the System just restored and all should be as the restored image requires. The BOOT menu entry and the UFD external Recovery disk are for user discression only (serios OS configuration failures and/or disk hardware issues)... not required for this type of restoration.
Hi @ Wilders Question: Can an image created by Hasleo Backup be restored within Windows or does Windows need to be booted into WinPE via a USB drive? If it can be restored within Windows, how is it done? Thanks Terry
Thanks for that clear (and reassuring) explanation If I create a HBS system image on an external usb, can this also be restored via its "internal" WinPE? Any possible usb driver issues to worry about?
As long as the System-resident version of HBS knows where the image is, it should be able to set it up for automatic restoration as required. I have not tried this as of yet, but I believe it should work just fine (all my secondary images are Hasleo and they are all on an external HDD)... I may try it in the next day or so. As far as drivers are concerned, the WinPE/ISO (internal & external) images are built using WinRE... and WinRE is built using the resident System... so I don't really see any driver issues with it.
A truth with any imaging System... if the partitions being restored are not "locked" (as in D:, E:, etc.) they may be restored using the OS-based version of Hasleo. If the partition(s) are LOCKed (as in the OS <C:> partition), the System must leave itself and BOOT into an environment where that partition is unLOCKed... that environment is the WinPE's BOOT.wim image contained in the ISO. As mentioned above, if your System is intact, Hasleo's "automatic" restore does not require a BOOT menu directive (to its System-based WinPE.iso or a Recovery USB drive)... it just uses a pre-BOOT area of the OS to invoke its System-based ISO for restoration purposes.
@soccerfan - I just did an "automatic" restore from a UFD-based Disk Image. Hasleo's OS-based WinPE had no trouble discovering/finding the image in question on the external UFD and restored it just fine.
I finally installed HBS 3.5. The interface is minimalist and uncluttered; I rather like it! I created an ISO and emergency disk. I also made a system image to an external UFD. Thank you @TheRollbackFrog for confirming a successful "automatic" restore from an external UFD. That is exactly what I will attempt tomorrow. Time to catch some sleep now. So far so good.
A quick follow-up: the restore went well. Just for kicks, I also added a WinPE boot menu from 'tools'. Time will tell but HBS could well become my primary imaging/restore solution
@soccerfan - Hasleo is reliable and fast, from my experience. It is my primary imaging solution on a Windows 10 and a Windows 11 system.
@n8chavez - Today, Hasleo made available a rudimentary scripting version that can obtain task GUIDs (needed for specifying backups) and use them to create Full, Differential & Incremental images either in VERBOSE or SILENT modes. A good beginning for those who wish to generate their own schedules and/or retention specifications. See this Forum Post on their site for download details. BATCH can be your friend when doing this type of external scripting... Powershell even better.
Downloaded that particular version yesterday. I not yet decided which system to install it to yet but will soon. The scripting should make for some very automated BATCH files to use. Only DS is the other i use batches with.
I believe Hasleo's plan was to release some basic command line interface capability while they continue to develop their internal scheduling/retention management. That way users, in the interim, could implement some basic GFS type of scheduling/retention, if they wish, until the full UI has been dealt with. I will do this in the meantime, via Powershell, to try and mimic most of Macrium's similar features in their UI. I'm a glutton for punishment ...
