Tonight Twitter won't let me read any Tweets because I don't have JavaScript enabled in my browser. Is this something new or has twitter just started to enforce mandatory JavaScript? "JavaScript is not available. We’ve detected that JavaScript is disabled in this browser. Please enable JavaScript or switch to a supported browser to continue using twitter.com. You can see a list of supported browsers in our Help Center."
Twitter.com is all about JavaScript. I think it was around 2019 when they started to enhance twitter API to require JavaScript be enabled in your browser for certain types of activity. Back then it was mostly required to direct/redirect URLs as they saw fit. Twitter uses JavaScript to gather a ton of info on their users and in 2022 Musk ordered changes to the API to strip-mine the users for more revenue. The new prerequisite for JavaScript may also be associated with Musk's announcement to remove 'free' 2FA support in March 2023, though I can not find any info to support that assumption. There is no workaround for this. You will have to enable it.
Thanks @emmjay for the info. Been reading tweets for a while but never got this warning/block until yesterday. I am using Firefox.

The platform's not supposed to do that. Also, according to Reuters advertisers started leaving before Musk took over because of child porn.
Yes, I came on here to check if anyone else was unable to open Twitter--instead, getting some weird request for its API. It opens now for me so it must have been a very temporary glitch. Spoiler: twitter page message
Elon Musk backpedals after mocking disabled Twitter worker in tweet ‘storm’ Still the same obnoxious bloke as ever: https://www.theguardian.com/technol...k-twitter-employee-feud-haraldur-thorleifsson
OK is this an oblique reference to his Neuralink thing? https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1633587625092169730
Elon Musk is the Basil Fawlty of social media. As someone who wishes Twitter didn’t exist, I am obviously an enormous fan of Elon Musk. He seems to be running it like one of those central London pubs that get bought by property developers who then have to prove the business is unviable in order to win planning permission to turn it into flats. This is quite silly stuff. And I didn't even know that Marc Andreessen was still active, he was the founder of Netscape, the first browser I ever used back in 1996. But it became bloated so I had to switch to IE, sadly enough.
This directly affects one of Elon's other (MAJOR) ventures but I felt it did not deserve a thread by itself. You wonder how/if this will have any effect on the rest of his portfolio, including Twitter of course. Lately, there have been some bleeps going on Twitter-wise that shouldn't be, like what Rasheed mentioned (and yes, I encountered the API thing myself). This wasn't a direct hack of SpaceX but a hack of a third party contractor that apparently leaked a gold-mine of schematics and stuff. I wonder if Elon's gonna pay or not. I have a healthy fear of LockBit myself. Actually any ransomware gang. They're ruthless. Aside: another gang (ALPHV) reportedly leaked pictures of breast cancer patients since the hospital wouldn't pay. Absolutely horrible. https://twitter.com/vxunderground/status/1635379620693565443
Oh wow. I dunno, not sure I like this new development here. What do you think? https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1637198368714772486 I mean, by "prioritizing," some of the better Tweets get shoved down to make way for paid ones, in the basic sense. That's what it looks like, anyway.
How Elon Musk's tweets unleashed a wave of hate https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-64989720 - The Guardian "Sorry for turning Twitter from nurturing paradise into a place that has… trolls," he said in one tweet, posting a screengrab of the report. According to Twitter's own data, that tweet was seen by more than 30 million profiles. "Trolls are kinda fun," Mr Musk said in another reply, in his response to my BBC investigation - Twitter insiders: We can't protect users from trolling under Musk.
Antisemitism on Twitter has more than doubled since Elon Musk took over Musk's decision to roll back content moderation is partly to blame. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/03/antisemitism-on-twitter-has-more-than-doubled-since-elon-musk-took-over/ And some summary video grom Louis Rossman about Musk Tesla engineers warned AGAINST removing radar; Musk DID IT ANYWAY! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sl6l9Kus22A
OK, this is ongoing and I don't know why but one can speculate. There is at least one poll w/various theories, incl. late April Fool's Day joke. We have the mascot for DogeCoin here, instead of the familiar blue-bird. Let's see how long it lasts. One poll: https://twitter.com/vxunderground/status/1642960474244538369 From my point of view: Spoiler: git along little doge-y
Holy crap, this guy has gone insane, is he still promoting this crypto crap? I don't think it's a funny joke.
The walls are leaning in... The EU has the rank of global standard-setter in digital policy. The EU legislation is the DSA (Digital Services Act) that Musk is giving the cold shoulder. It is currently under discussion in Brazil, Canada and Switzerland. The USA has none of its own and nothing under way. https://www.euractiv.com/section/pl...lision-course-with-europe-with-exit-possible/
Twitter no longer exists (sorta)... https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy...exists-as-a-company-merges-into-musks-x-corp/
