Microsoft's latest OS starts collecting telemetry as soon as the boot process ends

USA still the best. But barely.
Nothing will happen. One reason is that M$ passes this on to the 3letters.

Setup static IP/DNS, disable Network Store Interface Service and Windows will not even try to connect, because it will think, that there is no internet. A few services and apps might not work, but otherwise internet will work just fine.

According to this, disabling NSIS affects other services that I think may be important to some users:

    I might try it though.

Let's face it, Win 11 and probably also macOS are in fact spyware, there's absolutely no need to collect so much data. It's very sad how far we have come, that you can't even fully trust your OS nor your AV, free or not.

You never could. It just gets easier with more speed and constant internet connections.

clickbait title, copy&paste of poor articles.

"telemetry" was never approved as spying, neither for win10 nor win11. the amount of bytes was not sufficient.

If we all had a dollar for every one of those, we'd all have a lot of dollars. :D

I suspected way back during the XP run then Vista etc that those so-called 'updates' would/could easily slip 'experiments' that might not always be what they were touted to be.

@xxJackxx hit the nail on the head suggesting that now with higher energy hardware and internet connection they can really zip things into a customer's/user's good machine instantly enough to go unnoticed to dibble daddle with whatever the master plan is for them. And likely not always in your best interest.

In XP days if something 'harsh' was introduced with those so-called updates, your computer machine would revolt! (Blue Screen) Of course that still happens on occasion but frankly MS has their own interests they consider first most of the time.

Only in my opinion of course-But having a solid monopoly on the Home User Windows O/S makes for plenty of crafty ideas.

for now I don't care because there are too many users and too much data to process, but in (near) future it may lead to true horror, all this data collecting from programmes, the potential for a true nightmare is there, unfortunately, either the AI or the this data collecting or both altogether

Frankly all that AI garbage is just another form of HYPE for distraction overload which will run it's course after it's proved this and that, been measured then panicked about, made money on etc. A machine instruction AI to me is no different than a loose wheel running aloof down a hill until it hits an obstruction and falls still.

Data collecting is along the same lines IMO in that when that trend runs out too we might one day might go about the regular order & business of being able to use our computers without interference. Or maybe not. In that case just go INTRANET or independent localized network only.

I been prepared to CUT THE CORD since XP days- My systems do just fine without all interferences the wide open internet can introduce to my machine and sense of mind.

Agreed. It's still nowhere as capable as they want you to think it is. I fail to be impressed by it. So far.

Does anybody know what IP Addresses I can enter in my router's firewall to stop the Windows 11 Telemetry? There are many lists out there with 100s of entries I just need the most important ones.

They keep adding more addresses and the work to keep them updated would be a daunting task

we humans have moral compass that is hard to programme for a stupid machine, in both data collecting and AI the problem is with control and responsibility
