After being in development for more than a year and coming more than two and a half years after Transmission 3.0, the Transmission 4.0 release is here to introduce support for BitTorrent v2 and hybrid torrents, support for IPv6 blocklists, as well as a revamped Web client with full mobile support with full-screen and dark mode support.

Other new features include an option to omit potentially-identifying information like User-Agent and date created when creating new torrents, the ability to set “default” trackers that can be used to announce all public torrents, and the ability to specify the piece size when creating new torrents.

There are also many under-the-hood performance improvements to make Transmission use less memory and fewer CPU cycles. Also, the RPC API “table” mode is now used for both transmission-qt and transmission-web remote control GUIs, which results in smaller payloads and less bandwidth use.

Thanks! I use it through a docker in a Raspberry Pi and then access it remotely using a desktop copy of Transmission.

Most likely is the Qt6 issue which doesn't support Win7. let's see if they decide to offer a Qt5 build with 4.0 in one of their next point releases e.g. 4.0.1

and that's exactly what they plan to do, they're gonna offer a Qt5 build for the upcoming v4.0.1 release for Vista, 7, 8, 8.1

Not yet. 4.0.1 release is for the moment 86% complete, my guess is they will release it soon though, or at least i hope so.

The 4.0.0 release two weeks ago generated a lot of useful feedback (thank you!!) so we've been busy fixing bugs. This release has only bug fixes, documentation improvements, and build script fixes to make packaging easier.

RIP, Yeeshkul. TJ, your tracker is one of the first things that got me (@ckerr) interested in torrents when I started contributing to the Transmission project back in 2007. So long and thanks for all the fish.

It's unrelated to torrents and has more to do on how the torrent client was build.

4.0.1 Win 7/8 working again, 64-bit added
The Transmission Portable package now includes the Qt6 64-bit build for Windows 10/11 64-bit and the Qt5 32-bit build for Windows 10 32-bit as well as Windows 7/8/8.1 for best performance and compatibility.
