I've opened your link and started watching the video without being redirected to any other web-site or Twitter.

Strange, I get redirected to Twitter. Browser or Location dependant perhaps?

Wow, then this is weird as hell? When I click on the videos it opens the Twitter site for me, where I of course can watch the video. I wonder what the heck is going on.

If I hover over the big blue play button on the video and look to the very bottom left of my desktop it shows the twitter link.

Yeah, I'm also in US and the page opens fine, the video plays just fine. And if I hover over the blue Play button as stapp mentioned, no Twitter link.

You have to wonder if location plays a role here.

OK thanks for checking. This means that this is indeed most likely related to browser (I use Vivaldi) and perhaps location.

Yes, I also get to see the link to Twitter, but there are certain websites that will play the imbedded content themselves, and others that will redirect to Twitter, I don't see the point of opening Twitter.

BTW, I found another video where the Twitter link isn't being displayed in Vivaldi's statusbar, and then it won't redirect. So apparantly this is the way the figure out if you will be redirected or not. Haven't got a clue who decides this.

Rasheed, it would be interesting to see if the extension Skip Redirect was able to take you directly to your video without going to Twitter first. Unfortunately I can't test this myself as I don't have that problem. Again, the video plays directly here in the US.

You can get it temporarily if you want--the Chrome store has it, not sure if Vivaldi has its own store for these things.

I have this ext. full time, it's come in handy multiple times. Not trying to do a sales pitch or anything, just vouching for it. :thumb:

seems a matter of embedded content, iframe, externals scripts or more. basics. best solution: uninstall.

I also didn't have any issues with this video.

Thanks for the tip, will checkout Skip Redirect.

BTW, I always wondered if these small social media buttons can be used to track you? I don't think they are ever blocked by uBlock. This one is from the Financial Times.

Exactly where on the Financial Times did you find those social media buttons?
I don't see them on the Financial Times, with Firefox, uBlock Origin default filters + EasyDutch.
I disabled Fanboy's Social list for this test, but that didn't make any difference, I don't see social media buttons on the Financial Times. I wonder it's because I didn't accept the right cookies ('I still don't care about cookies' took care of cookies). On some other sites, Fanboy's Social blocks social media buttons.

If so, that is in line with what I said about accepting cookies.

    sorry, when i missed it

example for the buttons (and consent)
    https://www.ft.com/content/8c664463-cd13-420d-b3a4-89ff8e18f298

see image please. ublock filtered it, but both are cosmetics, so the "eye" button will reveal them.

a quick view to the logger, it might "Fanboy’s Annoyance" list.

to clarify - not all social media buttons track immediately, but i am sure that a script is already loaded in background. adguard tracking protection has blocked some, ublock filter another.

btw. to confirm cookie consent means cookies set. i surfe FT now with that dialog all the time and i got NO ft cookie nor storage. this is most expected behavior from blocking cookie consent, anyhow other used services of that can set cookies in background if not blocked.

Weird, so you're saying that uBlock should in fact block them? I see them on every article on FT, but most of those articles are behind a paywall. In fact, I also get them on SecurityWeek, see second link. I haven't got a clue if these are actual trackers though.

    Thank you, Brummelchen.
On that page and with Fanboy's Social disabled, I see the social media buttons.

If I am not mistaken, Fanboy's Social is included in Fanboy’s Annoyance, so that would explain.

Not with default filters, but with for instance Fanboy's Social or Fanboy’s Annoyance, then, yes.

On that page, and also on the FT page that Brummelchen offered, I see the social media buttons when I disable Fanboy's Social.

OK thanks, but it's still not clear to me if these are actual trackers. Most of the time if they annoy me I use uBlock's element picker, but I'm guessing those are cosmetic filters, so they are not actually blocked from loading, they are only hidden. I think I disabled Fanboy's filters because it sometimes breaks stuff.

I'm not sure, perhaps someone else can tell us.

I once tried Fanboy’s Annoyance in Adblock Plus, years ago, and it broke stuff.
I haven't tried Fanboy’s Annoyance in uBlock Origin. In uBlock Origin I use Fanboy's Social and I haven't seen it break stuff, except for the social media buttons, of course.

I will enable Fanboy's Social filter to see what happens. BTW, I do think that sometimes uBlock somehow interferes with the ''I Still Don't Care About Cookies'' extension. On this site I had to disable and enable both of those extensions a couple of times before it would load correctly.

On that Financial Times page, the social buttons are blocked here by "AdGuard Social Media". :)

In the past I had issues with these Fanboy lists as well and never used them again.
