KFA now has Network Blocker and System Watcher, so its comprehensive for a free product.

    1) What is the difference between the paid Kaspersky AV and the free version?

    2) Do they both still silently installed the Kaspersky VPN without the user's consent?

VPN can easily be disabled, without uninstalling it.
So it will not be reinstalled, on some next update.

    Hello, nothing is forced installed
After all, you agree to all this by ticking to install the product
and besides, without any problems vpn goes to remove
but I don't remove it because it's very good.
    Regards

I already saw this question in another forum, but sincerely I still don't know exactly what They mean with those words "existing virus removal"... is KFA able to remove virus in infected systems? YES, so ‍:doubt:o_O

I asked in another forum but no one could explain what it means. There's a plus sign near the phrase that gives the definition:

They will keep you guessing like you got a Christmas present from them and in the process they troll you in as a customer. Helps when they are competing against Defender.

    According to the chart here:

    https://usa.kaspersky.com/free-antivirus

the free version only has "Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware and Anti-Ransomeware Protection". "Existing Virus Removal" is not included.

still not seeing anywhere mentioned the difference between KAV paid vs free. Are there any nags or buttons to click to upgrade in the free version?

sorry I didn't click the link earlier. Now I see. I actually like the free version more, don't need anything but a file scanner personally and especially don't need any web filtering or protection.

yeah just realized that after installing it.

It needs a user account/login and if you disable web filtering it keeps nagging you and also nags you if you don't install the browser extension and the user interface has a button to upgrade to the paid version. Not a big deal but not my cup of tea so I restored my system to the point before I had installed it.

Thanks for the info. I've used earlier free KAV versions but kept going back to hardened MS Defender because of issues like mysterious Wi-Fi crashes.

As far as removal of existing malware, one could just run the free (and apparently portable) KVRT. I used KVRT as a 3rd-opinion scan; it completed in 5 min. and uninstalled itself (incl. drivers) after a restart with no additional prompting. (However, I had to turn off MS Def. real-time protection to get KVRT to run o_O)

    If I remember well,
    1. The only core protection missing in the free version is "Application Control" compared to its antivirus. Kaspersky System Watcher, i.e., Behavior Blocker, is solid (included in the free version).
    2. The new free K doesn't install the VPN.
    3. You can go to "Details" and select "Ignore" for the nags and uncheck others in settings.

My KSC subscription expires soon. I've found Kaspersky Plus 3 devices, 2 years for AU$37.99. I guess that's a pretty good deal.

I switch my AV on one machine every couple of months. I don't know why, I just do.

I have Kaspersky Plus too. It includes unlimited VPN and their password manager as well.

Yeah, I see that. KSC only included the Free VPN so I paid for a separate license for the Premium VPN. Oh well, it wasn't very expensive so I can live with that loss.

I also paid for the Premium Password Manager not knowing that was included with KSC. It's still in my account and I'll probably lose that money too. I think licenses are only good for three years once you've added them to your account.
