Is O&O ShutUp10++ app dead?

Hello, the last update was v1.9.1434 on October 25, 2022
If yes, is there any alternative with similar functions as O&O ShutUp10++

I don't think I would assume it dead after a 3 month gap in updates. Some of the previous versions were 4 or 5.

I don't think it needs constant updates. If there's no bug or no new privacy or telemetry related stuff to implement, then it's not likely to get updates.

 

Yes, I think this is probably it. There is no need to update unless something changes in Win 10/11. I do wonder how effective a tool like ShutUp 10 exactly is, when it comes to blocking of phoning home to MS.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean with CC? And how do you know that it works? On my system, I can see that TinyWall is still blocking stuff probably related to Windows phoning home, but I doubt all of the phoning home is stopped.

OK I see. I'm not sure if this is right way to decide whether ShutUp 10 is working or not. But I don't know to what traces you refer. But overall I have to say that I don't see a lot of network activity on my system related to system processes. A lot is also being blocked by TinyWall though.

 

windows telemetrie is NO phone home nor spying, its vital to make windows work properly. its the way to get micro optimisations for your windows (not mine). you can limit this or that but a complete off do harm your windows.

at least shutup is working, the current version or some older. i wont again use another tool because those are much more intrusive in native hands.

I still feel that all of the paranoid attempts to block the spying is a futility. When you have a private conversation with a smart phone in your pocket and YouTube suggests a related video the next time you go there it seems pointless to try to even bother with tweaking Windows to the point of probably breaking it. The only way to escape this is build a time machine and go back to the 1600's. Obviously make your own choice and tweak away if it makes you feel better but there are probably too many holes in your plan, regardless of what it is. Good luck to those that try.

 

there exist no "spying", there never existed any prove of evidence. but user is able to improve some privacy settings. for me i have disabled the cloud feature in defender, it sends unknown samples to the MS AI for further investigations, without any difference if it is a general file or a confidential document. thats one matter why the german BSI investigated about privacy settings in win10 enterprise for business use. this is also usable for endcusomers, but i wont extend it to the extreme - i need a working windows and no crippled and vulnerable system i cannot trust.

 

It depends a bit on what you're trying to block. I'm using stuff like YouTube, Instagram and Google Search so I can't expect them to not monitor my activities on their own websites. But I'm not down with all kinds of companies trying to monitor my web activities, it's none of their business! So that's why I'm trying to block trackers with tools like uBlock.

I'm also not down with M$ monitoring my computer activities, so that's why I try to block as much phoning home as possible, that's being performed by Windows. If it's actually possible to block all of this tracking and fingerprinting, that's another story of course. I do believe that ''telemetry'' or what some people might consider to be spying, has gotten out of control.

 

On their own websites is one thing, but as I have stated before I have been presented with YouTube videos related to conversations I have had with no computer present, just a smartphone in my pocket. I obviously have no proof of this but it was something old enough and obscure enough that it could not have been a coincidence. uBlock isn't going to stop that. I've also been presented with videos related to movies I have watched on DVD. Decades old movies that are not relevant today. They have to be listening through the phones. I know that sounds terribly paranoid but I wouldn't mention it if I hadn't seen it. I'd have nothing to win by making it up.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. What I was trying to say is that I wouldn't call people that are actively trying to block tracking with tools like uBlock and ShutUp 10, paranoid and silly. I'm not saying that you claimed this, but I mean in general. So I'm aware of the fact that it's not possible to block all of it and sometimes tracking is even useful, but they shouldn't go too far. That's why I also don't really trust most AV's anymore, who knows what files they are uploading to the cloud.

 

No, not here. Having conversations amazing enough on both phone and laptop I got hit in the past with certain advertising related to what was previously said.
There are ways on both to protect against this though.

Recently, I visited the website of a Dutch supermarket named Vomar. And only minutes later I got see an ad from Vomar on Instagram. So I wouldn't be surprised if uBlock can't block all of the tracking and fingerprinting that's going on. But I will never keep trying LOL.

 

This. If the current tweaks are working and if Windows update didn't break anything, there is nothing to update.

 

BTW, does anyone know if O&O ShutUp10++ correctly disables Cortana? To my surprise I saw TinyWall blocking the MS Windows Cortana app from making outbound connections, I wonder what that's about?

 

Why not just uninstall Cortana? It has been deprecated anyway.

What the hell, so you can uninstall it? I don't see it in Settings---> Apps though. So there is definitely something fishy going on since TinyWall blocks it ones in a while from phoning home.

 

I've uninstalled it from multiple PCs. Maybe you're missing an update where they made it an option.
